    Oh please with these answers.

They are looking for your work history by regulation, the regs say they are looking for "convicted of a disqualifying offense" in your work history. They go back ten years as part of the regs, and it is all about working under the regs, nothing more.

IN your case, put down "stay at home father" with the dates and that's all that is needed.

Basically employers want you to account for all your time since you graduated high school. A big unexplained gap is a red flag in their mind as you could have been doing something nefarious during that time...were you in prison, were you on a ten year bender, were you a drug mule, etc.

You were none of those. So you need references or letters from a few people stating they knew your activities....a teacher from the school your kids went to, a school principal, other parents that knew you and your kids......PTA parents, coaches......lots of possible people that could sign a letter you write, and all they have to do is read it and sign.

I got my cdl in 2010, and I dont really see where much has changed since then. You should do fine. Find a local gig so you can still see your kids every night.

If all else fails lets go look and see what the regs say! This is going to be somewhat long!

Lets remember a carrier when hiring you are required PER FMCSA REGULATIONS to start and maintain a driver qualification file on each driver. Part of this file is this above information on previous jobs. I had a gap in employment while taking care of my mom. All I did was state this and the carrier accepted it! If you have such a gap don't go all off half ####ed and make a big deal out of it. Just call the carriers HR dept and ask. That was what I did. Remember though. This is critical. When the FMCSA does a compliance audit on a carrier they WILL check some selected driver qualification files. They must be done the way spelled out in part 391. Give yourself time to get this information and go by what the carrier asks for.
