If your dumb enough to stay in a truck when heat stroke conditions could become present and do not have the brain cells to get the hell into a shade tree, truck stop, motel......... In my opinion you committed suicide and I for one would like to thank anyone that stupid for removing themselves from the gene pool.

Heat stroke from sleeping???????????????? Must have been a big #### armored bug too! You get heat stroke from over exertion in adverse conditions, if your over exerting yourself in bed get a motel room. This is melodrama at it's finest.

If drivers are dying of heat stroke from sleeping in heat we better pull the Marines out Afghanistan now because they will not survive the night. In fact because I am a cheap ####### you better come arrest me for killing my entire family because the AC does not get turned on until the temp is 100 and the humidity matches. If you want the luxury go pay the bill!

And no there is no comparison in whatever the insipid DJ's talk some idiots into doing and a big #### settlement. Well the average juror will convict you to a similar tune if you have money. See the rich should always pay in the average jurors mind. Most jurors are to stupid to get out of jury duty. Nuff said. Should have given them a medal for adding chlorine to the pool!

Now while I will staunchly maintain it is a companies choice on how much you are allowed or not allowed to idle. Quite simply it is their truck. Now you as a driver have the absolute right to not work for them.

All this crap about modifications or tricks to idle are irrelevant, and quite likely to cost you your job when they figure out your idling. Quit the #### company and move on.

100% of people that drink water are gonna die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Better ban water right?

During 2001, a total of 3,372 persons suffered fatal unintentional drownings in recreational settings.(CDC numbers)

    http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5321a1.htm

So to save the over 3000 people we will now disallow anyone near any body of water over 1/2 in deep right? Well no because with a little common sense water will not kill you.

And neither will heat without an exacerbating condition like meds, age, infirmity, or obesity all of which can be avoided for the sake of this discussion by not being in the truck if your that #### sick and can not run the AC!

You can take these steps to prevent heat-related illnesses, injuries, and deaths during hot weather:
    • Stay cool indoors.
    • Drink plenty of fluids.
    • Replace salt and minerals.
    • Wear appropriate clothing and sunscreen.
    • Schedule outdoor activities carefully.
    • Pace yourself.
    • Use a buddy system.
    • Monitor people at high risk.
    • Adjust to the environment.
    • Do not leave children in cars.
    • Use common sense.

    Nah to easy huh?

Where do you get this stuff? You are now a medical professional with a CDL?

All it takes is heat...and the amount of heat depends on the individual. Yes you can have a heat stroke just sitting or sleeping!

I guess that is why over 20,000 a/c units were sent over to Iraq and Afghanistan in the last few years by family and support groups...because the soldiers were to dumb to get out of the heat right?:biggrin_2552:

I guess being asleep in the truck with it running and the a/c on, then the the truck shuts off and that doesn't wake you up, and you getting heatstroke and dying without ever being aware that you're in danger is far to complicated a concept for some people to grasp.

I'm, sure that you would have realized the truck wouldn't idle more than 5 minutes long before you would have gotten ready for bed, gone to bed, got comfortable, etc...

The lengths people will go to in order to perpetuate an argument are pretty entertaining.

And the trucker stories are pretty entertaining, too... but they get old after a bit, along with the realization that ADULTS are passing along these not-fit-for-junior-high stories...

Right. APU's never break down, anti idle systems always work correctly, and nothing would ever ever ever cause an idling truck to shut down.

My APU gave it up one cool night.

It was 70 when I went to bed inside the truck. At 5 am it was 19 in the truck and the apu finally quit running.

The truck would not idle longer than 4 1/2 minutes each time. I spent the next hour and half trying to defrost the truck.

Outside temperature was 27 below zero.

Company was still having me sit waiting in the cold with no heat and no idea what they were going to do about my loads.
