Remote start is a problem, even with those so equipped. They are buggy at best. I did see where a guy used a door lock solenoid to operate the choke on one of these Predator inverter generators. The only problem I can see is the fuel shut off... it's incorporated into the off/on/choke switch. The Predator is an exact clone of the ubiquitous Honda engine. It also suffers from the same problem of filling the crankcase with gas if you don't shut the fuel off when the engine is stopped. I'd just start it up when you stop and leave it running. Mine goes 13 to 15 hours or so on 2.5 gallons. If you connect the fuel tank vent hose to a boat tank, it'll run until you get bored and have to go back to work, lol. That's the other thing about the Predator... disconnect the gas tank vent hose from the charcoal canister and pitch the charcoal can in the trash. Plug off the air cleaner opening and put the tank vent hose through the side of the case. If you don't run an auxiliary tank, put a vacumn fitting, on the vent hose, with a very small opening on the other end so it can draw air but keeps water and dirt out.
Ok that looked like a PTAC unit to me. And I've never seen a driver with a generator that wasn't one of those 3600 rpm screamers. The reason that is happening is the needle in the carb is not seating correctly. I had the same issue with my lawnmower until I changed the needle. The tip was oddly bent at about a 30 degree angle to the rest of the needle shaft. How the hell does that happen???
Ok, I found about a $150 solution. Its basically running a small window unit off the reefer. Its company approved & supposedly works well. Once I get this hooked up I'll post pics here. It might be a handful of days before I get around to the store & connection.
I’m looking to see what I can do to my 4 runner so I don’t have to leave it running on surveillance jobs.
Boy your company must love you going great lengths to save them money. How big is this fuel bonus your chasing?
Oh lord keep that thing away from anything Mexico border.. They steal grometts.. The genny will be gone in 60 seconds Laredo or Otay Mesa.
I reluctantly agree I would never pay for anything valuable like that and have it on the catwalk. Besides I have always felt the carrier should have APUs installed along with inverters. If the APU is not cooling the cab then that means the carrier has it turned down. NEVER under any circumstances put up with that garbage. Too many carriers out there!
There aren't very effective alternatives to idling or using an APU. There are hokey contraptions that pretend to work. They are not effective in high humidity regions or for more than an hour or so. I would change companies before I would give up an air conditioner.
$.06 per mile or roughly $720 per month & the better stats will lead to me getting a brand new truck.
