I missed the part about it making a popping sound. Hope they can figure it out for you. I’m always suspicious of a diagnosis that involves 2 separate problems at the same time. But it does happen. Batteries were probably overdue, just a coincidence. If taking the head off, might want to consider just rebuilding the engine if planning on keeping it more than 2 or 3 years.

    AFC Thanks this.

I'd like to know how they came to the conclusion to rebuild the head. There's a few other things that will cause low compression.

Tight valves will cause the problem, even DD themselves has a bulletin on the issue, just like they have one specific saying the electronic compression ‘test’ is not to be trusted for cylinders under 85%, and a mechanical test needs to be done for any cylinder that is below 85%.

it seems the op is just here to justify their decision, doesn’t care what advice he gets, just believe the idiot mechanic and that’s it.

Definitely could be tight valves. I'm just curious as to the testing they did to lead to the conclusion that it needs the head redone. Seems like a wild guess based off a compression test done on a computer.

Yep, I had this happen a couple of times, had an overhead done in California because the truck was going to be out there for a while and it was due, the dealer who did the work was recommended too. They had 3 and 4 too tight, the driver said it wasn't right when he took the truck out on the road. He went back and they said they would look into it, so they did nothing other than pull it in a bay and lift the hood. After an hour, they said all right but it wasn't right, so it went to another shop, they checked it and said 3 and 4 were really tight.

I have asked the repair shop to due the mechanical test since they will be opening up the engine anyways. This shop is familiar with my truck they have been doing repairs on it from day 1. I have also asked them to check the valves again. Screenshot_20240107-075614.png

Since I have been driving this loaner truck I have realized that my truck had zero power when going from 0-45
I always thought because it was an automatic and that's why the manual guys took off faster. With this truck...not even close. At the bare minimum I do have a power problem with my truck. I never noticed on the highway. I have it governed at 77mph to protect myself from myself in case your wondering why would I govern my truck

    Autos are slow for takeoff.
And it takes 6 gears to get any speed.

I'm driving one now and hate it.
