I asked about the head and the mechanic they sent it back because of core charge

 

And they are out of Chicago. They have been very good to me and have always paid me well even as a company driver. My average weekly take home with them as a company driver was over $2500 per week. They are the exception to the rule in my opinion.
As for the repair shop, they do not try to attract outside business. 99% of the repair shops business is maintaining company vehicles and owner ops.

 

I will talk to them about the individual items on invoice and see what they have to say about it.

It doesn't matter. The Freightliner dealer probably will charge you less. And I don't think they're qualified to do this kind of work.

 

If you want to stick to the dealer for whatever reason, go for it. But why are you being such a hater? I've been to a shop in West Chicago that sounds almost exactly like the one he's describing. The work was top quality, the amount of time the truck spent in the shop was considerably less, and the prices were better than the dealer. Your parents don't have to be born in the USA to make you qualified to fix a truck.

A $3k head is definitely not OEM.

 

Why would you need it OEM when it's a high mileage truck and it's not installed by the dealer?

 

OP paid for an OEM head and not aftermarket. You can't compare pricing when you aren't buying the same parts.
