Ok now I'm not sure I'm on the fence right now choosing slingshot I agree they seem like a viable option ........but I have tried several Pilot Truck Stops to buy the item and they have pulled the item from the shelf. Got several stories why 1. Sprints name is on the item and its some sort of copyright issue 2. They are having problems activating the item? 3. Sprint has stopped slingshot from using their service. Various resources on the internet are not favorable for slingshot. I just want to be sure I'm buying an item that going to be working for awhile. Are they stable financially? Don't know.
Here's a few not so favorable reports. I apologize if these links are violating policy here if so remove them.

Always good to know. I am at the Pilot near Atlanta east on I 20 right now, and they still have the ads up, so I'm not sure if they are selling them or not.

The main carriers want a 2 year contract and add taxes and fees to your monthly bill. They all have a 5 Gig cap.

Slingshot is a flat $59.99 and don't have a contract, but if you miss one month of service you have to start from scratch with them and their $300+ beginning charge is substantial (covers the first two months of service and the device).

Cricket is the least expensive but when you find out their coverage area you know why.

Millenicom uses multiple of the upstream carriers (I think it's Verizon, Sprint and Clearwire), is a flat $59.99 with no contract, unlimited service (this is mobile broadband only, no voice). They send out a device that works with their service which you can buy if you want (but don't have to) and if you go with the purchase option ($99.99 at time of sign-up) you can close the account down the road and re-open it later for a one-time $19.99 charge.

Is it just me being new to all this, or is Millenicom's website fundamentally confusing? I wasn't sure just exactly WHAT they were selling me or where to buy it!

I am using the Slingshot as I type. I am really not having any issues with it working other then it will not connect in a 1rxtt cell zone. One gripe I DO have is their service. I have been waiting for several days to get the 1rxtt issue resolved and they have not returned my call. I call them and every time I get dumped into voicemail. As I type this, I am getting a busy signal from their phone which doesnt make me happy.

I have a thread about it in the cell section of the Electronic forum. I had not heard about if you miss a month, you have to pay another $300. If thats the truth, then I am dumping this ASAP. I wont pay that crap. Looks like I may check into Millenicom and see what they are all about

***Update*** I just got off the phone with Slingshot. First time I have spoken to them live in 2 weeks of trying. I actually had to call another number from a complaint site posted by hs1125. The number I called for those of you having probelms getting ahold of customer service is 1-480-467-4000. Their other line is having problems according to the rep.

I told the rep about my connection problem and he is sending me software to update my card. I dont know if this will work or not but its worth a shot.

I also asked him about missing a month of service. I was told this by "Mark" (dunno if thats his real name...lol) If you miss more then 60 consecutive days of account non payment, you can restart your account for $20 and pay the $60 or more for however months you want to pay in advance. There is no $300 restarter fee. I am still on the fence as to if I could recommend the service at all but its working for me now...

I am confused. What is this device for? The one you mention that you don't have to buy. Also, if you go with the purchase option, what are you purchasing and how does it help with costs of not purchasing?

    Tjamls - :biggrin_25519:I mean, Thanks!

It is the USB device from Millenicom that allows for nationwide mobile broadband. The purchase option allows the client to close their account (since it is no contract) and then re-open down the road for a $19.99 fee instead of the $49.99 fee.

Okay, let me add another wifi noob question: If I allready have a laptop with the wifi card, isn't that the same as the millenicom device? (except I suppose, it's hooked only to millenicom)
And with my card, can't I subscribe to all/any of the other services?

No WiFi is not the same as a cellular aircard. A WiFi install in your computer will allow you to connect to a truckstop isp like T/A or Flying J or open any wifi access point. It does not use the cellular services.

The millenicom aircard uses the Verizon data service I think. It is literally a cell phone but with no keypad, dialer or speaker. It has it's own phone number and everything. Its the same with Slingshot aircard. The card is NOT interchangeable with WiFi or other cell based ISP's like Sprint, Verizon and ATT.
