I guess my thought is if he wanted to try and get down the road farther then at least make the effort to get your flap down to cover it up. That way everyone and their cousin doesn’t see a shredded tire when they pass him.

No one said that there not cars with bad tires, I just had to replace my front tire on mu F350. Bald no, but left was at minimum on the right tread was almost gone. Tires wear out, granted, but just being observant on what I see going down the road and at truckstops, there is alot of commerical tires that need replacing.
Nor do I believe that LEOS are singling out commerical drivers any more than the rest. I've recieved my share of tickets over the years, generally they were written for less than I was doing, a couple of exception, but I have been let off with warnongs also, kind of balances out.
If I thought I was being singled out, I would quit driving.
New equipment is headed (already installed at some) that they will get alerts for overheated brake, and tires with low air or bad treads as you drive thru the scale. Again personally I welcome that, Don't think I'll have any problems with it, But then again My main pretrip, couple of times per week take me close to 30 minute, I go under the truck all the way to the DOT bar in the rear of the trailer, check tires everytime I stop.
When you take it upon yourself to be a professional driver your accepting the responsibility of doing your part of keeping the highway of this Great Nation safe.
If not then get out of the truck.

Back in the powder train years gone by they would try to make us run on bad tire, Some of us refused at times had to change companies, The slogan was "Run'um till they pop". Bad idea then, and still is, gators kill people. I also ride a Dyna hitting a gator in the road could just about end everything. So if I could prevent an injury to someone, you bet n a Heartbeat I would make the call.

It’s pretty clear in the pic there’d be no gator until the other tire blew. By the overall look of the truck I’m guessing tire replacement probably wasn’t in the budget.

Being in the tire business for 32 years i’ve seen some stuff. I have never in that time heard of any everyday four wheeler being put out of service and being towed away due to bad tires. They are never just pulled over for tire inspections and rarely ticketed for it because if you put a non moving with a moving violation on the same ticket you can have it dismissed easy peezy. Even vehicle inspection stations that fail you for bad tires can’t put you oos. You can drive off and go about your business on crap dangerous tires. Tires are not as important to 98% of the motering public. They don’t care or think about them till they are flat. That is why the Tpms nightmare and hassle was mandated for cars. Snd that still hasn't made things any better.

And forget suspension, brakes, or a whole host of other things. Name one car driver that does a pre trip before they go to work. I’m willing to bet not even Dudley do right is doing that

I did a brake job on a cousins 2012 F150. She drove thru the rotors. For probably months. The only reason she suspected the brakes were bad was when the park brake wouldn't hold on a hill. Just one of many driving out there amongst us IMG_1475.jpeg
