The cobra 29 is a fine sounding radio when done right. Why add echo and screw it up?????
-
Echo when properly set is a fine audio enhancement. Clarifies the audio so to speak. When cranked up so that it actually echoes is when it sounds like ####.
Just like anything else, when done in moderation...
I do appreciate your opinion tho. Thanks.
One thing I've come to learn about this place as opposed to some other similair places is this: ask a technical question where there is one actual correct answer required and it's so quiet here you can hear a pin drop. But ask one that involves opinions or preferences and all hell breaks out and everyone's "opinion" is of course the right answer. Just an observation.
Have a good night! -
Thats going to be too much of a dead key for a 29. Most I have seen set up with the rfx have not more then 6 whatts dead key and 120 pep. Be carful not to push it to hard just to see the numbers out of it. -
I didn't set this one up. It was set up and tuned by the tech I bought it from. Paul at Bells CB Radios. I will call and ask him about it monday but the instructions with the RFX75 says to keep the carrier watts no higher than 15. 18 may be a tad high.

"The factory specs call for a 15 watt dead-key and a 75 watt peak power..."
Thought I'd pass this bit of technical info along usmc so not too worry.
I'm at 18 watt DK and 105 watt peak. (Thought he told me 120 peak on the phone but a note attached to the unit when it arrived had those numbers.
When my new meter comes wednesday I will run my own numbers tho. -
Sometimes it just takes awhile for one of the folks who actually knows the right answer to log on and find his/her/its way through all the detritus in the posts LOL

Cheers,

I have seen them personaly not last with that high of dead key. Dougs from custom cb are set at about 6.5 and hes getting 120 pep on his. I gues its just how they set them up differently beats me I don't know that much of the setting up side.
I sure would like to have one one day though just to toy with but don't have a need for one at this time with just buying that amp and all. -
I have listened to many many radios over the years and havign convinced some with echo to let me help them adjust them till they sound the best. We go back and forth until I hear the cleanest sound. Each and everyone ended up with the echo turned off at that point. Others have pipped in on our little tuning sessions and the same results were found. No echo at all gives the best sound. Many of the drivers were kind of disapointed because they had waisted money on something that was not needed or actually made them sound not so good on the air.handlebar and Mad Dog 20/20 Thank this. -
Like I said Rat I appreciate your opinion and I may find that to be the case. As of now I have just a touch of echo that over my talkback I think just gives the audio a little something that makes it sound good. I DO mean just a touch too as in barely on. Since I was building a new radio I thought that was the time to put it on and experiment since I've never had it and I have heard drivers with it that in my opinion sounded good. Most of them do not tho cuz they have it cranked up way to much. Would i have sounded good with this radio without it? Yup. Had the same radio before I got this one with the WXNW and RFX75 and the controversial echo.
Is it possible I may sound just a tad better with it properly set? I think there's a good chance it will and was worth trying it out in my opinion so why not add it and see. There's always the off button if it doesn't and I won't be disappointed if that's the case. Hope that answers your question about why I added it.
