No fire extinguisher = OOS violation or just a ticket???

When my truck was brand new, the first time I took it out they forgot to put an extinguisher in it before I left. I dropped a trailer in Santa Fe and was bobtailling back to Denver. They were doing inspections at the top of Raton, since the truck only had temp tags and no company stickers yet, the cop was more curious than normal. But all my paperwork was in order, he looked the truck over, pointed out the lack of an extinguisher, I told him that they were in such a rush to get the truck on the road the previous night (moving my belonging from one truck to another, installing my chain hanger and chains, etc. etc.) that they forgot. He didn't write it up, but it was resolved as soon as I got back to Denver. Last summer I accidently discharged my extinguisher (it was mounted on the floor by my seat and I kicked it with my foot), it was a 5lb unit and really did a number on the inside of the truck. Now I have two 2.5 lb units installed in my under bunk storage compartment on my side of the truck.

 

I believe it's an OOS violation for not having one and a fine for having one not up to specs such as to small, or not fully charged.

A good way to have the bottle mounted next to the seat is to turn the mounting bracket around so the top is facing the back of the truck! I do that with all my trucks where it is mounted next to the seat. I did the same thing years ago! That stuff keeps appearing forever! Plus it will scare the beegeebers out of you when it goes off! AND the driver that's passing you!
