No food! No water or bathroom and expected to stay in truck

The mentor gets reimbursed for the motel money by Swift. (sometimes slowly) He is limited to 6 days for home time when training. Every week the trainee talks to their supervisor and can voice any concerns.

I would be willing to bet this jerk wad mentor will still be training.

 

With his nick they probably thought bluebonn was a girl. As a male newb you would have been told to suck it up, quit whining and ignore the naysayers trying to discredit our honorable profession.

That was meant to be funny and it made me laugh so mission accomplished but... all that help each other out stuff has taken on some life of it's own on the forums. Even in better days it was a shot in the dark.

 

I know what you are going through and i can tell you swift wont do a thing about it my advice is get out get out getout i worked for those jerks for almost 2 years it dont get any better you will end up going bankrupt if you dont get out soon. i missed out on several hollidays that I was told i could have off, money not paid on time or not at all, I got a bad infection from one of the showers at one of the yards not sure if it was from denver term. or kansas city term but anyway it allmost killed me. i told my drivers manager i needed medical attention and was told i had to get the truck from grand rapids mi. to miniappollis befor going to hospital or i would loose my job when i got to miniappollis i had to wait 2 hours for a ride to the hospital and was dropped off at a clinic and left by the way it was the term manager that droped me off the people took one look at my leg and said i needed to go to the emergency room at the hospital but had to find my own way there so i called swift and it took 3 hours for a ride to the hospital and then i was droped off at the door and he drove away and left me withoput even talking to a DR. the receptionist took one look at me and said sit and with in 5 min. i had a full crew of dr. nurses rushed me into intensive care in almost critical condition i had scratched my leg on a chair that was in the shower room and got a staf infection the dr said he hopes its not to late and told me if this infection gets in to my blood stream i was a gonner thank god it didn't. then he told me if he can find the right antibiodic i had a chance but sometimes it takes several time to find the right one and time was not on my side and should talk to my family if i was able to do so. so my family was put on alert. thank god the dr hit it on the first try. i spent 8 or 9 days in the hospital now comes the day i get releast and had to take a cab to a hotel and was told to be ready to roll monday I told them the dr. said no work for 2 weeks and i was to stay down on my back for the first week so what did swift do about that you ask? put me on a bus from MN. to AZ 44 hours of sitting,had to switch busses 5 times load and unload all my luggage on to each bus by myself while trying to keep from falling off my cruches. by the time i got home my leg was twice its normal size. now for the best part swift refuses to pay workmans comp wont pay i owe this hospital over 25 thousand dollars. so dont be fooled by the polite faces at swift term. any of them not one person cares anything about you or your family get out get out quick as you can get 3 months otr then get out for your own safety. see photos taken 1 day befor going to hospital by the time i reached the hospital the rash had spred from my foot to the knee and coverd the whole area could not walk do to the pain.

 

And with my "nick" people usually assume I'm a guy.

While I am not going to excuse your treatment by the Inver Grove Heights terminal staff, I do have to ask what you expected them to do. I have no idea how long you worked for Swift or whether you opted to sign up for medical coverage. Eight or nine days in the hospital and you only owe $25K? Sounds like you didn't do too bad to me.

There was someone else who posted on these forums recently about getting a really bad infection that some of our members have suggested might have been staph. He didn't go to a doctor, though. He should have. I hate to point out, though, it was not a work related injury if you got this in the shower room. You were off duty attending to personal business. Should have told them you did it while winding up the landing gear or at a shipper....or anything to do with actual work.

Seems to me, our O/P got his medication, no thanks to an insensitive mentor who, if Bluebonn gets out of the truck like we've all been telling him, will not be training for a while. It's kind of Bluebonn's call. There are some of us hanging out on the sidelines waiting for him to decide this knucklehead's fate. Whatever happens, I seriously doubt this trainer will ever pull a stunt like this again.

 

Bobcattoman - I'm sorry that you got an infection in your leg - just as an FYI - it might not have come from a shower. Because of the type of work (driving) we are in a sitting position for LONG periods of time. That leave the leg in a dependant position and fluids can collect that would normally be pumped out by the movement of your leg muscles when walking. Those collections of fluids (edema) can cause irritation to the surrounding tissues (cellulitis) even without any trama (cut/bump/scrap). Because staph is ALWAYS on the skin, no matter how clean we are (even directly out of a shower) the infections for the most part are staph related... Yes they are dangerous if left untreated - and yes you could have gone septic and lost your life. So I'm not trying to minimize what you went through... however it most likely not the companies fault... its propbably not any single events fault - it just happened... sucks but it happens...

 

I may be incorrect and what do I know, but I took the O/P's post as being upset with how Swift reps handled the situation after being made aware of their condition and during medical treatment. Threatening them with their job if they did not take the truck from Grand Rapids, MI to Minneapolis before going to the hospital? I assume they were under a load, but even so, couldn't another driver...what do you call it at Swift... "T-call" it? Spending 9 days in the hospital battling a staph infection which is a serious illness, and then upon discharge to home being dispatched for a trip? I hope the driver continued to try and keep Swift informed of their condition, as the only way I would think Swift would have dispatched them for a trip is if the manager was not aware of either the O/P's condition 9-10 days later, or their discharge orders from the hospital. If they were aware of the O/P's condition, then shame on them. Refusing to pay worker's compensation for an infection possibly contracted at a Swift (Denver or KC) terminal? That last would be difficult to prove though, because as Lady K stated, staph can be contracted from places that would surprise you. If the O/P has health insurance benefits, that should cover the majority of health care costs. I really hope Bobcattoman's health improves.

 

or just do what i do, pee on your legs in the shower. cleans everything right off.
