Schneider doesn't allow pets. The big companies out of here are Werner and May Trucking. Recruiters will come by your school.

If Primes paying 42 cpm for new drivers I would jump on that. I've known some companies pay as low as 16 cpm and require you to team for a year. Mots start at 26-34 cpm for solo.

You are living my dream good sir.. Yeah twice a week for showers and fuel and etc and the rest of the time just doing your own thing. So awesome. I live a couple hours away from Monument Valley I love it up there. The reservation is pretty barren in general but as long as you bring your own supplies and just take in the views of the rocks you are golden.

During the training period its significantly less than that, but yeah solo OTR to start that's what they told me anyway. Plus a pet policy, sounds like a deal. Not sure about an APU on the truck but beggars can't be choosers initially. Thanks so much for the advice!

Most OTR companies welcome having full time drivers ready to live on the road. I can't think of any reason why they would object. You are far more available to haul freight than someone that needs to be rerouted for home time every 2-4 weeks. I've met many company drivers working OTR for Swift that are living in their truck, for example. Most have their stuff in storage, but a few I've met have been doing it for years and eventually got tired of paying for their storage and sold it off.

Regarding planning a schedule around anything on a fixed date like a baseball game is difficult. You always need to allow a couple days "fudge factor" if you need to be in a certain place at a certain time for home time. If I HAVE to get home on a certain date I'll put in for a home time request a couple days before that to better guarantee I'll make it for an event. The downside is I may arrive a couple days before my request and then I have to decide whether to take more days off than I planned or ask to run local loads for a few days.

Regarding the idea of avoiding truck stops and "camping" or parking in out of the way areas... YES!!!

Unless I have to I try to avoid parking at truck stops. I dislike idling and get better rest with fresh air and peace and quiet. There is always someone (if not the majority) idling at a truck stop. An ideal day might be to get a shower at a truck stop during my 30 minute break, then find a peaceful location without any other truck for my 10 hour break.

As I travel OTR I'm constantly scoping out ideal spots for taking a 10 in secluded places. I make notes in my truck stop book and have some places on my "bucket list" that I've been able to tick off as I go. Places with great fishing or hiking are out there. Sometimes you luck out and are running out of time on your clock and come upon a magical night.

There's nothing quite like parking, doing your post trip, then sitting back and watching the sun set over the Sierra Nevada mountains as you enjoy a nice dinner, then go to sleep to a chorus of coyotes answering a pack across the valley.

That sounds absolutely perfect. You are doing it right my good man! I wish I could get a hold of your list of great spots to park an 18 wheeler. I could give you some spots in AZ if you are ever traveling thru on the i40 to LA. That's about it though. A hike after your post-trip is exactly what most truckers need I bet.

Shower and fuel on your 30 and then spend the 10 doing whatever you want, wherever you can park the truck. I love it. Thank you for all the positive ideas that's exactly how I hope most days will go.
