One thing you can be sure of justin, is that most days will not go exactly as planned. And every day is likely to be a little different, particularly when you are first starting out. Even with the most experienced driver, who is an excellent trip planner, things go wrong. Traffic, truck problems, weather, shippers/consignees. When you have trucks, and you have humans, things are often going to go wrong. But, it keeps it interesting. More or less. . .

Big Don is right. There will be good days and bad days, great places to take a 10 and bad places to take a 10.

I do remember a night I thought I'd found the PERFECT place to park all by myself on US-54 in Texas, just off the road on a moonlit night. Dead quiet. Started to get some sleep and then...

.... WHOOOOOOOO!!!!! CHUGGA CHUGGA CHUGGA CHUGGA!!!!

I didn't see that set of railroad tracks 50 yards away in the dark.... :(

That was a busy set of tracks.

For the most part I meant, (as far as living in the truck full time) are companies alright with drivers loading the truck up with everything they would need for that? Stuff like a small dorm fridge, microwave, other small appliances to cook, or electronics, etc.. I've seen mention of some companies not allowing inverters and/ or no APU and such. Should it be assumed these companies are not used to drivers actually living in the trucks for extended periods? Staying in a truck for three weeks is one thing as drivers can usually go without something small until the next home time you know.

depends on the company, some do no have APUs or allow inverters, others have them in all trucks. I know Raven has inverts and APUs as well as every truck comes with a fridge and microwave

Right. This is one of the many questions you need to ask of a perspective employer.

I've gotten along just fine without any need of a heavy duty inverter. 12v cooler does just fine, with restocking at a grocery store about every 4-5 days to keep everything fresh. Hot water maker does the trick for most of the rest and sometimes I'll use a microwave at a truck stop or terminal to make a batch of whole grains that I keep in the cooler.

If you need to go with a full on refrigerator, microwave, etc. in the truck then a heavy duty inverter would be required and you should select the company based on whether they allow that or already have it installed.

The rumble is peaceful. I forgot to add the sound effects for the screeching of metal wheels on metal rails. Like Freddy Kruger's fingernails on a chalkboard.

Hehe that's true. Especially when the conductor is laying on the brakes coming into a town its a racket. Do you bring a mountain bike or any sort of easy transportation for those 10's when you want to explore around some?
