When the parking brake sensor switch in my old truck malfunctioned (2011 Volvo) and I had to unplug it (kept causing the parking brake warning light to come on, which caused the warning buzzer to constantly go off when moving), I found that the 5 minute idle shutdown (which we could override with the cruise anyways) was disabled. The DRL's were also lit up when parked and running. The ECU disables the DRL and enables the idle shutdown timer, at least in Volvo trucks with D13 engines.
You could try that in other trucks, that way you can still set the parking brake and see if it still idles. Would help a lot if you are bobtail.

if your truck is set for 600 idle. good luck on the a/c. need at least 800 rpm's. on the FL'S. have to set the tractor brake. turn on the cruise and hit resume.

I remember once I got a brand new truck with 200 miles on it and the APU stopped working. So I idled it and after a few hours I got error messages on the dash screen about the air filter being dirty and my engine made a weird sound as it cleaned it. Ive only seen that happen once.

There are quite a few companies that run APU units. Instead of the bottom feeders that don't give a #### about you, how about heading to a place where trying to sleep isn't a challenge?
Lessors.
Marten
Stevens
Trans Am
Gordon (for the time being)
Big G
TWT
System
Melton
Those are just the ones off the top of my head that invest in APU units for their drivers. There's several others too. It's like a wild game of trying to not roast or freeze when the better solution is to expand your horizons and go somewhere that actually invests in you.
