this is probably non-hazmat and (probably) will involve dispatchers who "do not have full grasp of DOT / HOS" ..... working on situation, collecting info as fast as the email will operate ....

when i worked for coke..we had to fill out a "driver exempt log book". it just had hours logged in and out. in the back of book, had a few pages of graph logs just in case wwe qworked longer that 12 hours.

you still need to fill out a daily time off and time on sheet, if your truck is not fitted with a comtrack system.
you still need to fill out a log to make sure you dont break the 14hour rule total of working in a day rememebr you can have only 150-200 miles to drive but its how long your in truck and how many stops you need to account for as well.nicholas_jordan Thanks this. -

I understand the 100 mile rule but what does the 100/150 mean?

My understanding of the 100 mile radius rule, is that you're exempt from the 14 hour rule. So again, no log book is needed IF you ONLY work within the 100 mile radius. My understanding is that there are no HOS regulations under the 100 mile radius rules.
If I am wrong someone please correct me. -
i never had to either i ve been working local for the past 12 years and never did so in my time at all. now with this new company im with they have a CSA accountability crap that has me filling out a daily log for everytime i get in and off of truck.

if you work under 100 miles. then NO you don't need a log book.
you only need time sheets.
however, if you work over 12 hours. then yes you need to go a log graph. and you only have 14 hours max per day.
since your under the 100 miles. that also classifies you as a local boy. (being home every night) working 60/7. NOT 70/8
my brother in law DOES do logs though. but they aren't paid by the hour. they are paid by the load.
he hauls oil to the refinery. and does one load per day. -
First, I am not disagreeing with you. Again, I don't know so I am asking.
I wish someone could show me the rule on this. I worked for Waste Management for 11 years & occasionally, they would come up with this, then get away from it & start it again, then get away from it, then.......
I studied the FMCSA hand book pretty regularly. I never found ANY rule that dealt with a 12 hour anything. I asked WM to show us the rule on this & they never would. However, I don't think we had anyone at our facility that knew how to read & interpret the book that well. They were getting their orders from Houston & were just passing the rule along to us & enforcing it. Maybe I have missed that part OR possibly I didn't/don't know how to interpret that rule but, for the life of me, I can't find any rule that says this... OR a rule that deals with ANYTHING revolving around 12 hours.
