The basics of the rule for local work, without the legaleze, is if you operate within a 100 AIR MILE radius and report back to the same location you started at then you ARE NOT required to keep a log. 100 Air Miles is about 115 miles on land. And you can work over 14 hrs if it is your only instance within the last 8 days. If you do work over 14hrs you are then required to log that day. All of your normal work days can be recorded as hours punched on a time clock and should DOT want to know how many hours you worked your company would have to provide the info with in 48 hrs.

Some local drivers keep a log just to make it easy in case they are stopped but for the most part being professional and explaining you are local to DOT will do the trick.

Is that some intrastate FL thing? Because the federal rule is 12 hours.

I think i'd just as soon go ahead and fill out a logbook if your not absolutely 100% sure that you wont go over the air-mile limit, it pays to CYA.

not to bump the thread or countermand Scalemaster,...this could begin to confuse some people who cannot follow deeply convoluted discussions but we have crackinwise speaking then an Ed The Fed responding so be advised we may have disparate opinions due to "conflict of laws" see 29 U.S.C. § 165 : US Code - Section 165: Conflict of laws .... the original job-lead that prompted me to start this thread is non-responsive but if this thread gets excessive cross-talk moderators please take the position that posters are "on your own" beyond base rules and procedure to suit site operator .....

I can take it but will not stand for risk of starting a firefight, which this can jump into like Feral Hogs on a sack of apples .....

I answered your original question with a TXDOT link and believe nothing further will become of this thread.
