Hey fellas I wanna get into running flatbeds but I want to say away from the MEGAS ...... Any info on some good companies would really be appreciated (names) I'm outta Detroit. Chinatown shot me a list on Saturday but most didn't run flatbeds but I am still grateful for the list. (Thanks Chinatown) anyway all would be helpful. JUST NO MEGAS!!!!! Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if these are megas or not, but McElroy and Jordan i see a round quite a bit.

There is another that is out of Cuba, Alabama (beside McElroy) but can't think of the name.

I just meant that I don't want to waste time with Swift, TMC, US Xpress, Maverick, Stevens companies like that.

Try Howard Transportation out of Ellisville MS. Only 150 trucks. New Internationals, 68 mph, auto trans, runs mostly east of MS. Has another terminal in Kenly NC. Decent folks.

Well, you really are not wasting time... If you spend 6 months looking for a non-mega until you find one you could have been gaining experience instead of just continuing to look.
The problem is no experience means self insured or insurance so high no one can afford to hire you.
Also, any 1 -10 truck company that may hire you will likely be 1099 (they have to save money somehow to compete) which means they are already breaking the law. Never trust such a company no matter how good it sounds. If they are willing to break IRS laws, what else are they willing to break?
Now, by no means am I saying don't look but set a realistic cut off time.. If you have found no one in 2-4 weeks, then apply to TMC or the like. May not be the best company but at least you will get that 6 - 12 month experience in that insurance companies require.

Maverick is not too big, you might want to give Arkansas a visit. East of little rock on 40 over yonder.

As much as I hate to say it choking on the keyboard, EckMiller would be another. If it's loads you want they generated about 360,000 paid truckloads delivered annually back in the 90's when I was there. They and I had a falling out like a bad marriage and cankles or something. It's a shame.

Prime or TMC will do it too. Flatbedding that is.

I cannot recall another company, but they ran Trimec? Trinac? Tri something trucks with small explosives A compartments on the catwalk and do a bit of decking. Government runs sure as hell. You might enjoy it.

Seems to me getting the best training possible should be the goal of a new driver. Experience and a clean record opens a lot of doors.

Thanks guys I sent Trans am an application over today so I'll see but I'm guessing you're right ZVar with no experience and needing a refresher I'm probably going have to settle on one of those chew'em up and spit'em out companies to get some time. All I can do is keep trying. And the wife (Miss Mad) won't let me take to long or she's gonna pick one for me and kick me out the door..
