    Hey everyone,

Got verbally slapped by the doctor when I was told to cut back on caffeine. Anyone got any good alternatives to keep me awake on the road?

Red Bull and cigs. No wait, that's even worse. Just get good rest, don't eat a heavy meal during the day, and stay hydrated.

    Slap the doctor back! :)

Yummmm! Enjoying a great cup of Starbucks joe right now! I gave up many things in my life. I'm not giving up coffee!

There are mixed studies so I question if they even really know the side effects. Some say it'll kill you some say it's good for you. I say it's good for you as I sure do like it! :coffee:

Vitamin water energy works decent. It still has caffeine but a lot less than coffee or redbull.

Try some of the following solutions - a combination may work best:

    1) Ice Cold Water (and drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated)

    2) Vitamin B12

    3) Lemon Water with Fresh Lemons and/or Lemon Essential Oil (you can buy a car diffuser that plugs into cigarette lighter and diffuse the lemon scent)

There's a company called Plant Therapy that have high quality oils at some of the most reasonable prices for 100% pure medicinal grade oils, and also sell the car diffuser I believe. They are also sold through Amazon.

    4) Stretching - any excess tension saps us of our energy

    5) Regular Massage can also help in relieving excess tension and hypertonicity

    6) Using your own breath - specifically deep breathing to increase oxygen intake. Here's one great exercise for alertness, which you can easily do while driving, or pulling off the road to do:

The Stimulating Breath (also called the Bellows Breath)
The Stimulating Breath is adapted from a yogic breathing technique. Its aim is to raise vital energy and increase alertness. Inhale and exhale rapidly through your nose, keeping your mouth closed but relaxed. Your breaths in and out should be equal in duration, but as short as possible. This is a noisy breathing exercise. Try for three in-and-out breath cycles per second. This produces a quick movement of the diaphragm, suggesting a bellows. Breathe normally after each cycle. Do not do for more than 15 seconds on your first try. Each time you practice the Stimulating Breath, you can increase your time by five seconds or so, until you reach a full minute. If done properly, you may feel invigorated, comparable to the heightened awareness you feel after a good workout. You should feel the effort at the back of the neck, the diaphragm, the chest and the abdomen. Try this breathing exercise the next time you need an energy boost and feel yourself reaching for a cup of coffee.

As another exercise, you can also try deep breathing and humming on your exhale - try "Mmmmmmmm" and different vowel combinations or silly vocalizations.

    7) There's a couple of acupressure points you can also try to boost energy:

K27 Energy Buttons (on your chest alongside the upper sternum on each side and just under the clavicle)

    ST-36

    8) Diet also plays a huge part in our energy levels - try avoiding overly processed sugars and foods and opt for more whole foods - vegetables, fruits, etc. (not easy on the road I am sure)

point on the bottom of the foot that can increase energy as well.

    All the best!

You can also try drinking Coconut Water - has lots of potassium and electrolytes. SmartWater too instead of plain, regular old water.

Coconut I love too but I had to give that up as it has a very high fat content. I'm not sure if it makes it's way to the water.
