I've gone (almost) caffeine-free. Only drink regular when there's no decaf. For me, starting CPAP therapy was a lifesaver. I steadfastly refuse to use energy drinks. My BP has crept up over the last few years, so this plus some weight loss is on the agenda.

Cutting out caffeine was far easier!

I'd be more worried about all the Slim Fast than the caffeine.

I swear the hardest two things about quitting caffeine cold turkey is A. The headache that comes after about two days going sober. and B. The extreme lethargy that lasts about a week while your body is adjusts without being propped up by the caffeine.

Good luck. After a while being sober, you'll find that a single cup of coffee will keep you up all night.

Coconut Water does not have a high fat content at all (VERY low actually). Unlike coconut milk (which too much of that can give you diarrhea and does have a high fat content), Coconut Water is NOT made from the white pulp of the coconut or from a mature coconut. Coconut Water is extracted from a young, green coconut - the inside.

By the way, Coconut Oil (the proper kind to buy is Organic if possible and definitely Virgin or Extra-Virgin Cold-Pressed) is one of the healthiest oils you can eat. As with any oil - sure it is high fat - but it is all of the good fat. Extra Virgin Olive Oil, real butter and duck fat are all other great choices.

It is NOT fat that is unhealthy and bad for you - it is the types of fats/oils. You want to stay away from overly processed, refined, hydrogenated vegetable oils as the body does not know what to do with those - oils like soybean oil, corn oil, canola/rapeseed oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil. Definitely stay away from any margarine or butter alternative - choose real butter with grass fed butter being the best (like Kerrygold).

If interested, here's a good guide on oils (and there are plenty of other good resources):

Obviously, doctors know a lot about things, but most of them don't know about proper nutrition and a healthy diet. Personally, I wouldn't turn to one for advice on that.

For example - a lot of diseases, such as heart disease, stem from too much processed, white, bleached sugar, and processed foods that contain all of the bad, refined vegetable oils (not healthy fats). The less processed the sugar, the better. And the less processed food, the better. All those "low fat" products - they will kill you! Too many unpronounceable ingredients that you need a chemistry/science degree to understand, and too many fillers, bad oils and processed sugar. Just opt for REAL food.

Yep - stay away from Slim Fast, and all those other types of similar drinks. Just look at the ingredient list - if you can't pronounce it, and you don't know what it is - neither does your body!

All that garbage will kill you! The food industry has exploited the whole "low fat" thing, and instead all of those products compromise our health.

And all of these fast food places - like Subway - who's slogan is to "Eat Fresh" - they are a big joke, and full of marketing bloat. Not only does their bread contain the same stuff that yoga mats are made from (the mysterious "dough conditioners"), the lunchmeat has tons of fillers in it. Because of public awareness, Subway is going to change their recipe and remove that garbage (supposedly). And, it's not only Subway that is guilty of this - you name the fast food joint, you got your yoga mat in your bread. The same goes for the majority of breads you may buy at the grocery store. Bread should be Flour (unbleached and unbromated), Water, Salt, Yeast and in some varieties grains.

    Good guide? Here you go:

Most likely, things you have never thought of, but that's because corporations don't have your best health in mind, which is why you have to. And that means educating yourself, and then deciding what is best for you - rather than swallowing hook-line-and-sinker all of the marketing hype - some of which will use the buzzwords "healthy" and "all natural" and "fresh" to fool you into believing it is a better, healthier product for you.

Our ancestors didn't need Slim Fasts, or the countless Energy Drinks out there, and neither do we if we eat a whole food diet (for the most part) with adequate sleep and plenty of water. You wnat natural energy? Grab some whole food, 100% all natural Cacao Nibs - it's what the Mayans ate for stamina and energy. A handful will do. Peace.

And coffee is not bad in and of itself - it is the high amount that our culture seems to consume, coupled with many other caffeinated drinks on top of the coffee - like the countless energy drinks, soda, caffeinated water, etc. (not to mention all of the sugar - which is detrimental to our health and creates inflammation and contributes to heart disease, unless it is a certain kind - the less processed sugar, and the closer to its real state in nature, the better). Coffee is also a diuretic, so without enough water, our bodies become dehydrated, and with that comes a lack of energy. It's not rocket science as our bodies are basically bags of water suspended by some bones.

"The human body is 90% water at birth. The water content in the body of a grown-up person decreases to 70%. The water content drops to 50% with age."

    Water = Life

As a side note - stay FARRRRR away from any of the diet drinks out there. Contrary to marketing BS - they actually contribute to weight gain. But don't take my word for it:

Not only that, the artificial sweeteners (Aspartame, Nutra-Sweet, etc., etc.) will turn into formaldehyde. Need any more reasons not to drink this stuff - read below:

Why does the dr want you off the Java? Hypertension? Road rage? Is caffeine the problem?

As usual it's a myth. Coffee is fine to drink. Why do we listen to doctors so much? I certainly don't after being mis diagnosed at least 3 times on certain ailments. And doctors know very little about nutrition. They're there to solve your problem with that little drug/ pill. I mean, come on now, the drug companies want to maintain their fat profit stream, or haven't you noticed.
I'm in my 60s and my doctor can't understand why I'm not on some medication. He keeps saying I'm a freak of nature. He's told me all his elderly patients are on something for cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure yada yada. You name it.
He's chomping at the bit to get me on a drug, he's demanded I take a physical just so he can scrutinize this old bod of mine. There's got to be something he can get me for.
But I'm afraid he's wasting his time. And I shall keep drinking my brew of Java every morning. I just don't take sugar with it. Unlike most, I totally ignore the docs overtures cos he has no clue.
I dont take meds because I don't have anything in order to take a pill. Coffee has some excellent properties for good health. There have been many studies that claim that coffee helps you avoid Alzheimer's and even heart disease. The drugs we take have more chance killing us than a nice cup of coffee, so just go and enjoy. Stop listening to that load of bull.

Wouldn't it be easier to just excersize regularly? I'm only 28, but I drink coffee and energy drinks like it's my last day on earth, and I'm perfectly fine. I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I excersize and still eat and drink whatever I want.
