Boy I know this going to get me yelled at, I just can't help myself. I know how people feel about the reefer on this site, but nobody has said not to do some crystal meth to stay awake. ( I promise I am only joking, please don't throw rocks at me, only making a funny). All kidding aside, my grandparents lived to be old people surviving on a combination of hot dogs, bologna, coffee, cigarettes, lard, kielbasa, and all the other really good tasting foods and things in life doctors say are bad for us. I never was a coffee drinker, have substantially cut down my soda drinking, can't seem to get away from my iced tea though. If I have to quit cold turkey, then I won't have nothing left to make a sandwhich with except ham and cheese. No thanks society, I'm not quitting turkey, whether it be cold or hot turkey.

About 7am there is a glorious aroma of freshly brewed coffee in my truck. Starbucks has got competition. It's so strong it will take the chrome of a trailer hitch. I've been doing this for about 10'years now. Why stop. My health is as good now as it was in my 30s. You can still exercise if you want. I even have lovely crispy bacon with all that lovely grease..yummy. Another myth, that animal fat is bad for you.
as a small lad we used to spread pork dripping on a slice of bread and guzzle it down. But if you listen to doctors you're gonna get heart disease. Well I'm telling you it's nonsense but what will kill you are all those darn drugs they want you to take. My sister in law died at 39 yrs of age because the doctor had her on 28 different pills. Crazy !!
I eat butter instead of margarine, lashings of cheese with 60% fat! all kinds of meats so as long as I'm fit and healthy! who cares.
Healthcare in this country is about greed profit and performing deep open wallet surgery on you. It's just one big racket.
eat well but stay off sugar and carbs. Good luck.

I've never been a big coffee drinker, but i've always had high blood pressure…most of it due to smoking. Have never really had trouble waking up and working without caffeine but recently i've started drinking Yerba Mate'. It is essentially just green tea with like 90% more antioxidants than conventional green tea. It is full of amino acids, antioxidants, and all sorts of good stuff. I think it contains 1/3 of the amount of caffeine that a regular cup of coffee does, but you could make it stronger or just drink a lot of it i guess. There aren't any negative side effects that i have found: i don't get stomach aches if i drink too much, and i don't get paranoid if i over do it. In a nutshell, Yerba Mate is sort of just a super boosted Green Tea. Good for your health on many different levels and i think, a great substitute for coffee. Its nice because you can brew a pot or cup of it in the morning much like one would traditionally start the coffee in the morning. So if drinking coffee in the morning has anything to do with habit, this might help a little bit. Some folks don't like the taste of tea. I add a little honey to mine to sweeten it up a bit. The only problem i have with Yerba Mate is that it isn't exactly easy to find across the states. It is easiest to find in health food stores like Whole Foods, Co-Ops, etc. I have had success in finding the stuff at Albertsons where i live but I also live in a pretty small place where health food and 'going green' is generally the norm. So i just stock up every time i am at home. Costs about as much as regular green tea does, and also comes in either a loose leaf form that you can just brew in a pot like coffee. Or it also comes in tea bag form.

It's all a life decision guys. I'm sure if I smoked and drank like I wanted to, I'd be half dead already.
