I used to drive a semi, but now am a P/U truck transporter. I drove across Ohio 2 days ago and helped every truck. Not sure how many passed in the 243+ miles, but 6 returned a thank-you blink. Then on my way back, across I-78 in PA, a Yellow day-cab pulled beside me on a hill, matched my speed and put on his blinker to force me out. After about a mile, I backed off and flashed him over. He didn't respond but slowed down. When I put my blinker on to pass him, the semi behind me pulled out and rode beside me to the top. That's it! Big trucks, you're on your own. Time to add "Courtesy" to the school curriculum.

Not only do I hit the interupt or 4ways to thank a big truck, I also do it for 4 wheelers that I see back off/slow down to let me over after seeing my turn signal regardless of if they flash me or not.

As a kid my mother always told me about flashing the light's out so that a trucker knew he had room to get over Now I just do it out of habit and hit my 4way's to thank even if they didn't flash to thank other driver's for the room And I know the feeling of getting pissy when there r so meny I drive in a city

Ive always flashed my lights on aand off for another truck especially in inclement weather, never the brights. and like the other post ill hit the blinkers for a corteous 4 wheeler. I rely on my mirrors in good weather but that on off flash in bad weather is always an added bonus that i appreciate

While I am used to the non courtesy what I hate are the drivers who pass and you dont have time to flash because they barely clear and move over sometimes I am hitting my brakes instead of the lightswitch. I can understand if you pass me doing 80 but the ones that barely clear and are only doing 67 are the ones who have almost wiped me out. On that note I will back off my cruise if a truck is barely going faster than me.

Thing is flashing your light when someone is clear is a courtesy that some of us were taught. Many drivers have a lack of manners and do not care. Others have been told by their companies to not reply or even acknowledge you.

I, myself am a newbie, and got my training at Humber College for my AZ. My instructor was hardcore on flashing and flashing thanks. When we were out half the guys would flash and half wouldn't, it would always piss him off. But he said as a professional driver you should do it especially to say thank you. I think it would be common courtesy.
