If they're on the side, yeah, I don't think they mind. If they're trying to shoot radar, then they get annoyed. It's really up to the cop that catches you doing it wether to run you through the wringer or not.

A cop on the side IS a hazard in the road...ever have some dummy slam on his brakes in front of you when he freaked at seeing the lightbar?
I doubt it's legal, but "back in the day" when we were running 15-18 hrs. at a run, ALL lights were irritable, and I'd gotten hold of some of that rubberized plastic that you use to stick on tint to your back windows? I'd cut it to fit my mirrors (wasn't very dark) to take the edge off. Of course, you can't back up with them on, but it was nice at night, being able to see the dash but not blinded by cars behind you.
Always the inventor. Since then I've discovered amber blueblockers. Everything's yellow, but the eyes relax.

Several years ago, I was on a small two lane highway with lots of curves, hills, and valleys.
As I was coming through a set of curves, an oncoming vehicle flashed their headlights at me. A glance at the speedometer told me I wasn't speeding, difficult to do with all the curves.
But, as I rounded the next curve, it wasn't a cop I should have been looking for, but a herd of cattle! Luckily, nothing happened. But, the sight of a big red tractor pulling a trailer coming around the bend, caused the cattle to about face, and head back toward the pasture.
So, flashing lights do have a purpose other than alerting the presence of law enforcement officers.
BUT, JUST SAY NO! TO FLASHING OF BRIGHT LIGHTS AFTER DARK!

That's what I use. I can't see in full sunlight, especially when the sun's coming up or going down, without some kind of sunglasses.

I happened on a pair of amber sunglasses and let me tell you, they are a very effective tool at night for reducing the glare. NOBODY seems to dim their lights anymore so I will have them on my head, I can flip them down in less than a sec and reduce the glare enough to not have red, bloodshot eyes anymore. I can see well enough for no risk and when there is no glare, they go right back up. Doesn't work that well with your more common green lenses...

To get back to the original thread, I agree 100%. I've kept it up for the last 5 years or so, mostly because I didn't want other drivers to think that "I" was the "no class idiot", but I'm done.

Truck drivers used to take pride in how they drove their trucks, now most of them (it seems from what I, and you, see every day) don't have a clue. Screw it, I'm too old to give a #### anymore.

I argued long and hard about this with my dad when I rewired his old International. He wanted the wiring modified for easier signaling, H also want the whole thing rewired for free after he ste the wires on fire and cut them all out of the truck. I told him fine but not at the same time.

Now that I am studying for my own cdl, my brand new "South Carolina Commercial Drivers Manual" tells me that it is unsafe to tell others when it is safe to pass or not. So don't blame the new drivers. Like everything else the government has screwed up common couresy.

they dont teach professionalism in trucking schools anymore...i always turn my lights off and on...most of them cannot even use a turn signal much less hit the marker lamps or the hazards. i havent been driving but 10 years but i learned everything i know from shutting my mouth and listening to you older drivers...it has kept me safe and alive and i am a better driver because of it...newbies you should do the same.:biggrin_2551:

I've Been in the seat for 27 years now, i was taught by my grandfather when schools weren't redily available...Back in the day drivers waved to each other, watched out for each other..."the Brother Hood" and the courtesy of flashing was a givin! The one thing you must remember is that it is a courtesy....whether or not it is recipricated is only a glimpse of there training.... Now i will tell you i Work only in the Northern California Region, and have to deal with alot of "Legal or Ill legal Drivers and i find that most of them don't have any "Driver Ediquet" (If you find this Offensive...Tough ####!) I only Speak from Experience! Now that the new laws have effected us in Caulifornia....I now drive what i Consider to be a Catchem can't passem truck, meaning we are governed at 63 miles an hour, we get paid btm so we set the cruise and go...we can catchem but can't seem to passem cause they...(No Racial profiling here cause i have found that alot are guilty of this) seem to find the button to speed up there cruise control or they wipe out there belly buttons or just step on the gas. Now to be more specific we have a dual speed limit 55 for trucks and 70 for cars (the most retarded frikking thing ever) so i try to make a practice of passing not to piss off 4 wheelers, but when i get caught up up in this situation i find myself getting waved at by only one finger at a time by the 4 wheelers...Holy ##$% Folks sorry this is so long winded but i'm pissed about this and i'm soooooo GLAD this is a forum!

So what i'm trying to say Keith is Dude thats minor, i know it bothers you as much as i, but the bigger picture is safety and i can judge pretty well if i'm passed you or not and will flash you if it's not real busy, but what the thing that the people today are not remembering or just to stupid to remember is MERGING and just a FRIKKIN BLINKER! Let me know if you really are going over there or not YOU FRIKKIN IDIOT! Oh and if you let a truck in on a merge, the merging truck is to slow down to let the courtious truck over before you decide to drag race me so i can hold up traffic!
ROOKIES READ THIS CAREFULLY! if your not taught this in truck driving school FIRE THE TRAINER!
