I think there will still be some holdouts.
Caterpillar Cowboy and bzinger Thank this. -
Manuals aren't going anywhere. They're superior to an automated in some applications.

They can have my 13 speed when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers (and thumb).
BackwoodsGA, bzinger, Vic Firth and 18 others Thank this. -
We do a lot of off road work. We have all manuals. We tried an automatic and it didn't do what we wanted and it didn't hold up.
We had it for a week with the agreement that if we liked it they'd sell it to us for a greatly reduced price. We, in turn, would be featured in ads and promotionals telling everybody how great it was. Also, the deal required that we not pull the automatic and replace it with a manual. We kept the truck six days, worked it five days, and sent it back to the dealer.Caterpillar Cowboy, bzinger, Vic Firth and 20 others Thank this. -
Considering that Freightliner, volvo and international are making the automated transmission the standard build. While you can get a manual transmission, they do charge more for them, and you would have to order the truck to get one. About 5 years ago, the charge for a 13 in a freightliner was running $3500.00.
Sirscrapntruckalot and randomname Thank this. -
There is currently no application that I am aware of that is superior to a properly operated manual. Auto is only a advantage to a poorly operated manual. Especially fuel mileage. But the industry is going auto.Vic Firth, Tb0n3, Rubber duck kw and 13 others Thank this. -

Who want to drive a manual that old school ? Ha ha. Not sure how automatic will hold up at 1 millions miles and they are computer controlled so that could be bad with age. I'm enjoying my automatic. I think the manual transmissions will end up being special order for heavy haul or off road stuff. If we go electric trucks we won't even have transmission to deal with anymore.
AModelCat Thanks this. -
Tb0n3, Badmon, Suspect Zero and 4 others Thank this.
