I have never been able to get a comchek at any truckstop......unless I was cashing it there.
Never mind.

You really don't need to carry comchecks with you. Just take in the code and the ta/petro/love's/pilot will put your info in and they will print it out for you to sign.

So far its a nuisance, but I have only been in NY and MA. I do not look forward to playing this game in NJ as places to get a comchek aren't particularly well distributed. I also am completely unable to pay out of pocket...I don't make enough money to loan it out, and especially when I know I won't get it all back.
This is what happens when a company rooted in the midwest tries to play by their rules so far off their turf. Every trucking company out here has EZpass, 5 trucks to 5000, it doesn't matter. Hell, every one-truck O/O running his own authority (and there are quite a few) has the #### transponder. It is a tool of the trade here, whether its a Prepass, EZpass, or MA's Fastlane.
Eventually, you lose business to someone who can do it faster, cheaper, or both. Going back to cash tolls is a big hit in efficiency, and costs more in tolls(at least in NY). All the competition uses a transponder...why set yourself at a disadvantage? -
Because the people running things over at TMC with the exception of Harrold himself barely graduated and don't know what simple business economics are.
It might appear to be a big cost 'savings', which it very well may be. But, with the amount of extra income you'd have by making drivers more efficient, your bottom line would still stay the same at the end of the day.
Ofcourse, you can't tell them that. It's a knee jerk reaction like someone else stated earlier in this post, TMC thinks it's vendors and suppliers owe them something, and will probably learn the hard way that they do not. -
Please Read Important changes to PrePass:
TMC started using PrePass Plus a little more than 3 years ago, based on the benefits of PrePass Plus outweighing the costs for the system at that time. PrePass is now making changes to their costs and billing process that will significantly increase the cost to all carriers that use their service. We have been working with PrePass to find an alternative to their new process, but we have been unable to reach an agreement.
Therefore, effective immediately we will no longer be utilizing PrePass Plus for tolls. We will be implementing the system we had in place prior to PrePass Plus, and similar to the process many of our competitors are continuing to use: Toll charges will be reimbursed when your toll receipts are turned in, and your Fleet Manager can issue comchecks for approved toll roads as needed. It is very important that everyone plans accordingly to get any advances for tolls from your Fleet Manager, during regular business hours.
The option will still be available to use PrePass for pre-screening through designated weigh stations, but this will require a different transponder than is being used today. The cost for the PrePass-only service is $2.00 per week and we will set up weekly deductions on this as we have in the past. Those of you with a transponder will need to return it back into the Des Moines terminal while you are here, or send it in a TripPak envelope by June 12th. Your deposits will be paid back as these transponders are received up through June 12th. If you elect to continue service with the PrePass (weight station only) transponder, your deposit will be used for the new transponder. When turning in your transponders please identify whether you are interested in continuing with the weigh station only option, by attaching a note along with the transponder or write on the TripPak envelope that you are interested in PrePass.
Please contact your Fleet Manager if you have any further questions. Thank you.

Straight from the website. How scummy that they're still going to charge you guys 2.00 a week to use it. That should be illegal. -
It kills me that they pay to have the trucks washed every week but can't or won't cover the cost of Prepass with EZpass ( and I don't even work there anymore). If anything its more a benefit to the truck and smart business (cuts down time for tolls and weigh stations) than washing. Plus its less of a pain for the driver.
I wanted add that I'd be really pissed if I was still driving for TMC, living where I am at I was always on the toll roads. -

Of the several hundred truck stops in our fuel network there are probably less than a dozen Loves so most TMC drivers might not know what is available there. Probably 95% of our network fueling stops are Pilots. I haven't sent my transponder in yet because I'm having difficulty deciding whether or not to get Pre-Pass through TMC. I'd hate to get it and in a couple of months TMC has another temper tantrum. Does anyone know if we can get a Pre-Pass for our trucks on our own?
-
.......... LOL. -
I don't think individuals can get commercial tags unless they're O/O or L/O. Not that I want to anyway... Not inclined to pay for something out of my pocket, really. I'm here to make money, not spend it on a company that I have no vested interest or share in.
