For those too young (Millennial... such snowflakes... //TEASE)

Bug +Slug em when one of you see it first. = Game of Slug Bug. A road game battled in many a station wagon's playroom in the far back. Especially if Daddy and Mommy are on Benzos to endure the trip.

I grew up in a bug. The very best ever in any snow due to weight distribution. You could not get out of anyone's way or climb a hill but when winter comes... everyone wants a bug.

It was all fun and games until you drove past a VW dealership or factory.;)
My old man had an orange Super Beetle when I was a kid.

Omg yes indeedy. Brother had weight, size and reach on me. But I learned to fight with heart. Ows worry about later. I used to get in really close going after his chinese windgate or diagphram. Once you pop the wind out of him that's the end of that. Hopefully not pernamently.

Funny how you forget the ows.

Interesting footnote for those who remember, refueling an original Beetle or Super Beetle was literally a guessing game because they didn’t come with fuel gauges until about 1965 IIRC.

Tap the brakes twice listen for the slosh. Fuel tank is up front if I don't mistaken.

Edit, if a crinkle joins the slosh you are about half tank. The metal tank you know.

Even today those old Beetles would get decent fuel economy by today’s standards-about 32 mpg!

Listening to that flat-four engine rev up brings back memories..

I bought a Colt GT in 1988 I believe, 7700 dollars and got 47 mpg out of it. Gas 1.10 and 10 gallon tank. (A touch more...)

That car would hesitate on your left turns telling you had 5 miles left to empty on when the fuel sloshes to one side of the tank away from the feed intake that low.

If I ever find another without a flawed oil line I would probably buy it. Those things were bullet proof in the day. Had em up to 140 at times with AC and so on on. Stable as a rock. Unlike the nissan pulsar for example. They get that horrible shimmy in the rear at that speed.

My Father left the engine of one in an intersection that had those deep drainage troughs.

He and his Buddy Steve and I were heading home from the shop that had just redone the engine from when he drowned it coming back from Crestone/Broken Hand.

He was hurrying to meet someone and hit it at about 300mph (ok at 4 it seemed that fast) when he hit one and it got very quiet until we landed.

    Boy was Mom pissed :D
