I've seen um on a lot of SS trailers. They are basically a 20,000 pound rated straps that sits loose most of the time letting the suspension do its job. If you loose a tire the one forward or behind it will force the rim to smack the ground. The limiter strap will get tight in this scenario and prevent the rim from going down all the way.

I actualy lost a tire driving downthe high way on a poorly maintained tire the other day. (and by lost I really mean lost) I did not know it was gone untill probably 150 miles later when i pulled in to the yard. The rim never touched the ground. Basically the strap prevent so much movement that it hits. Of course you are stil over loading the remaining tire.

That is total BS. Firsr off less compare aluminum to aluminum or steel to steel. I would always buy aluminum if i was goign duels for the weight savings. Great dane said 600 more for SS vs Aluminum duals. The rims are and tires are about the same price if you spec them OEM.

There might not be a tomorrow FOR YOU because you have that attitude. You have to invest in long term savings. Your truck was an investment and cost you tons of money short term.

    Well said, Mickey.

Some of the reasons many trucking companies are the bottom-feeders they are is because they have "educated" types with all this "experience" in finance running them. These people have no clue what the industry is all about and have no desire to learn. They see the bottom line, nothing more. They think that, like some other corporation, they can cut the budgets here and there without thinking or caring how it will affect those who actually bring in the revenue. I'm seeing it in my own company. When asked, we are told by those in charge, "I have x number of years in the transportation industry.". That means squat when you really think about it. It's like the guy that says, "I have x number of years in law enforcement" only to find out that he washed the police cars. Since these guys took over our company from the owner after he sold out, things have gotten worse; CSA scores have gone up due to the whole "meat in the seat" mentality that didn't exist before the "New Bosses", LP programs with junk trucks brought in from third party leasing companies that, in many cases, don't make it out of the yard before breaking down or having the shop put them out of service, facilities gone to seed because the "New Bosses" don't want to invest any money towards upgrades that will accommodate the huge increase in drivers, shop can't keep up because of all the new trucks but no new mechanics to work on them.

Sorry, I got off topic, but the whole attitude of "I have economics/financial experience so I know better than you, the guy that's been pounding the pavement for 20 years, even though I have no trucking experience" sets me off.

Me? I'll continue to run duals. It's a better setup and, realistically, a better option on several levels. IMNSHO, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages, where SS are concerned.

Because Im not 'buying' into the whole sales pitch of savings..IM JUST NOT.. You better show me a lot more factual proof than just Michelin saying.."Well,You'll get 6% better fuel savings with our new tire".......

See,Thats the problem with you college kids and Marketing guru's........A sales pitch is the answer!!

i wasnt born yesterday............I dont make significant changes in my operation because others found 'A better way'.....

Also mickeyrat, Your Grammar needs a little help.

MY WAY has landed me an excellent career with substantial annual profits.......You think Im going to risk that by converting over to something only proven by a corporate sales pitch?

    Your outta your mind people
