My statement is not wrong, it just left out an alternative. Does not make it incorrect. But at prices between the two, I am betting it just makes sense to upgrade. My point was, his statement was that we are out of luck to pick up broadcast over an antenna. That is just not a correct statement.

Actually it depends on what you will be using the TV for... if you are using the TV solely as a signal input monitor for a VCR or DVDs, then it will continue to work in that capacity without any conversion at all. But if you use it for any signal input from an antenna, then the digital coverter box will be necessary after February 2009. In other words, your porn DVD collection is safe, either way... :biggrin_25523:

Wrong.........The FCC is selling that frequency band to highest bidder. I think AT&T won the bid and is planning to use the band for a more powerful version of Wi-Fi.

I must have misread your statement. There WILL still be "Broadcast" Television, but the signals will be DIGITAL instead of ANALOG, and you need at MINIMUM a DTV or a TV with a Digital tuner; which MOST modern televisions have nowdays anyway. If you DON'T have a DTV, you will need a CONVERTER which the Government is giving away TWO "$40" vouchers to every family. I plan on taking mine and selling them on EBay to the highest bidder.

But, HDTVs are relatively inexpensive compared to the price of televisions 10 years ago. I have a 17in Polaroid LCD HDTV I got at Walmart almost 2 years ago for $246 (in my truck).

They haven't opened up the bidding on the freq's yet, and I wouldn't count out Google as a major player in the game yet. Google's "Plans" for the frequencies is more noble than ATT (or any other "TeleCom") in the fact that Google will GIVE AWAY the WiFi, which will be ad-based, and allow people in rural areas to have the Broadband that the major telecoms have denied them previously.
With Coast-To-Coast free Wifi, every trucker can throw away his over-priced Broadband cards and have quality service....for a change.

Coast to Coast wifi would be nice.............but if you look up the info, google has been out bid, and has stated they will not bid higher..........it will be one of the TeleCom's.

That would be too bad. Here is the Government selling OUR airwaves to a company that will use it as a commercial operation.
