Before you start spending alot of money, find out what your radio output is. Ask around if anybody has a meter that can measure your output. If the previous owner used that radio with an excessively high SWR, your radio's final amplification circuit may be damaged and your range is very low like a quarter mile.

I had the same one you have and had nothing but trouble with it. After two years of dealing with it, I tossed it in the trash.
