I have to deal with the learning curve at every stop.
First time might blow but now you know more. Could end up being a good trip in the future.
Didn't say if the 135 was deadhead from the house or if your dad was already on the road. I'm always looking for trips that might help make a loop. Then I know who to call to try and get things preplanned.
I'd keep notes on the stop. If it's offered again you'll have a better idea.

He has been on the road for a month. We have done so many loads and most of them have been as described (we are very new, so yes, its a learning curve). We follow the spot market so as soon as a good load within 150 miles shows up, and if the broker has a good CS and reviews, we will take it.

I put this shipper on my list so that I don't make this mistake again. Fail to plan, plan to fail. But plan as much as you want, nothing will go as you planned o_O

    Spot on!

Unless I've worked with a particular broker for a while, I would take what they say with a grain of salt (many lie)... It's up to you to verify, call the shipper directly, confirm PU time, call receiver confirm delivery time, save yourself a lot of headaches. Shouldn't have to, but that's the way it is.

Back in the day before cell phones, one learned this lesson early on, used to call from the phone at the table while we ate. Now a days, everybody has a cell phone as an extension of their arm, but no one likes to talk to anybody....
