Pays more and what I am hauling they will not cut loose to mega carriers so I am told by others, the rates went down and always been the type wheither it is a flat, RGN or box I work the money and keep steady.

I love pulling RGN and iron but have to keep busy to pay for those things I want than need.

have you ever got caught in a bind after booking a load and then discovering you need escots for a route change you did not know about?

It just happened to me and I had to eat $600 in pilot cars for an unpublished 11 wide restriction in AZ.

    Martin,
I went to AzDOT site and ran the route through their restriction engine and it came back with only one issue in Kingman that had to be ramped. Then when I got to the port in Topock there was a 11 wide restriction in Holbrook that required a significant detour and frontnand rear escorts. Just angry at the way it played out and getting the stiff arm from the broker on helping out. Then getting called morning and evening for progress reports.

I would have told the broker this load ain't moving until you pay for the escorts. He might not have have picked up the whole bill but it would be worth a try.

Sorry to hear that Ron. Bad of the broker to say its your problem etc though.
I know when I am over 11 or 12' wide, I call the AZ and NM POE's before leaving the shipper! I have also been caught out before too.

Based on having already purchased permits and booked escorts for later in the trip and not wanting to spend 2 weeks under the load based on the the weather, it seemed better to keep moving on schedule. As it was Imhad to sit for 36 hours and pay overnight to the escort in MO when the ice and snow started flying. I am just not super happy how it played out. My point was only that sometimes it sucks a little to run legal but it can't be done anyway else.

I will going forward. Knowledge is never free and learning sometimes is expensive. I could have called my dispatcher or my corp office ...nevermind that's still me. I hate my boss right now.

    Totally agree Ron.
It caught me out after I called our office and was told "Yeah I40 in NM is OK for that load", then get a different answer at the POE, making me do a ton more miles etc. when I could have just routed myself differently and saved a lot of hassle before getting to NM. Ended up costing me sitting time on the load due to Az not letting me run the weekend.
Let our permit gal know about it in no uncertain terms, like she gave a hoot.
I will be in Irvine,Ca Monday or Tuesday, depending on some issues that cropped up with one of the other loads. Deliver then escape to Hesperia I guess if there are no loads down there.
