    Haha! Well, based on what I've read about some companies I suppose I could start training in a few months. I think I'll skip that though. At least until I get quite a bit of experience.

    Prolly a smart move. Most of the guys I've talked to that went straight into the smaller trucks have no problem with them. It's the one's forced to downgrade that really complain. Which is understandable.

    In the days of one seat at Chippewa (1970s), their best Chicago city driver took the promotion to safety. Years later, I read in Transport Topics that he became a terminal manager for a larger carrier. He was a black man and definitely upward mobile. When he was a city driver, his B model Mack looked like a show truck.

    I turned down the promotion because of the pay cut from union driver. I was also too young to tell the old-timers about their bad habits. Safety would have involved speaking at safety meetings and travel. I kept my Chicago turn from Mendota, LaSalle-Peru and Ottawa; home daily.
