I know we're talking mostly about Indiana, but if the front plate disappeared and there was one on the rear, I'd swap it to the front, make my company notifications, and roll on.
Then again, when I was working in Washington a while back, I first saw two plates on a semi... guess I hadn't run into that before.
no plates

IC 9-18-2-48
License plate reproductions
Sec. 48. (a) The commissioner may enter into a contract or an agreement authorizing a person to create and use a reproduction of a license plate issued under this article.
(b) A person may not create or use a reproduction of a license plate issued under this article unless the creation or use of the reproduction is expressly authorized in writing by the commissioner. The commissioner may impose under IC 4-21.5 a civil penalty upon a person who violates this subsection. The amount of a civil penalty imposed under this subsection:
(1) shall be determined by the commissioner; and
(2) may not exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000).
(c) Money paid to the bureau as:
(1) compensation to the state under a contract or an agreement entered into under subsection (a); or
(2) a civil penalty imposed under subsection (b);
shall be collected and deposited according to IC 9-29-1-1.
from what i am reading, one CAN use a cardboard copy (reproduction) of a plate, as the registration papers would still be IN the truck....and someone from the company secures written permission from the state to do so..???
like i had said earlier, i know what the mechanics in the shop did for me...and i never had any problems..... -
Did you bother to read the IC code you posted the commissioner must aprove it not the state but the commissioner (that is a single person) and I believe it would just be as easy to get a replacement plate. Not to mention the two IC codes I listed. Both infractions = tickets at minium $150.00 each plus impound. Dont believe a Police Officer do what u want and dont wine when ticketed and towed. Not trying to be mean just stating the law. Fact be fact

The first truck I was issued had no plate on it. I didn't find out until a security guard asked about it. My company faxed me some kind of temporary registration. I ran with that into and out of Canada and all throughout the midwest and into and out of many a weigh station without even a second look by anyone. Got my new truck, that was the first thing i looked for.

Not familiar with the IC code... what exactly is it or am i missing the correlation with some rulebook any dummy wih a cdl should obviously know. Im not trying to reproduce the plate but does that cover using registration in lieu of plates? I can quote that to my dbl and see what he says.
Like I said before, if I get a ticket for this I wont be a happy camper but its my word against a multi billion dollar a year company who could fire me in an instant.
Sorry guys been a long day driving (still no plates, word is that it was supposed to be applied for today at least) so im not all there i guess lol -
Indiana code, duh...lol
So.... lets say tomorrow i send qc message stating my concerns. Quote the laws, whatever... is that gonna make people more angry or do you think it would help the situation?
Plan b is to just wait to see if i get the ticket and if i do then ill let em have it. I just dont want dac/csa problems...James j Thanks this. -
whatever......good luck to you. -
