I took two years off otr and the only company that would hire me was Swift. Had to go to a three day orientation and then go out two weeks with a mentor. I had wanted to get in with my uncle's company but they said I would have to take a refresher course or go out with another company for 6 months then they could hire me. If I would have had the money I would've done the refresher course but didnt so come january hopefully I can get in with my uncles company.

Thanx brinkj23, I will give Swift a call. I can handle a refresher course, just don't want to waste time in a six week school( took me too long to acquire my bad habits) to have them change me now, especially if they are going to charge me to do it.

I have sent resume' to 14 small local companies in Florida 9less than a hundred trucks) as suggested by "Torqued-Up". Not one of them even had the courtesy to reply.

Thinkin' I may go the O/O route, if I can find a company that will put me on without 14mo. experience in the last year.

Oh ya, I forgot to mention that the only company that said they could probably work with me was "Maverick Transport". (coincidence)but I was out of their hiring area.
At least they had the courtesy to respond. Wish I lived in Georgia. :biggrin_2552:

Don't want to misrepresent myself. I only have 2 yrs. exper. I have been off for ten years. i am looking into a refresher course now. I have been a carpenter most of my life. I am laid off. Have no idea if I will get called back. I haven't seen it this bad since the Carter years. I hate to make snap decisions but I don't want to get caught with my pants down , per say. I will go in this time with my eyes open, I hope. This has been a good place to get imformation on what is going on in the indusdry. Last time I made the mistake,
{as alot of guys did} of signing up with J.B. Hunt. I hope to make better decisions this time........lol. I know the refresher course will be a must. Hope I remember some of it!!

With a user name like that I can think of a company that would not require a refresher, but FL is a problem.........:biggrin_2554:

Hmmmm . . . Do you do flatbed? There is a company out there that has a name very similar to your handle.

No idea when notarps will be back on today, so I thought I'd toss in some cheekiness for him!:biggrin_25525:

I was out 10 years, the most important thing a company will look at, "did you let your CDL lapse, or did you keep it current?? Some smaller companies may be able to get you by their insurance carrier while the larger companies will want recent OTR time.

Be aware, once you find that small local company that does OTR, they will hand you loose leafs log sheets and you will go through many of them!! The company I'm with pays "aggregate", not miles so I'm getting scewed there. But,.. I am building time in the truck for "recent OTR" time. You may get lucky and actually find a small local company that's good however,.. that's where I would concentrate my energy, especially in this economy

I'M sure Werner, Schneider,JB Hunt, Cr. England , Pam, TMC, Celadon, CRST Malone, etc would hire ya... Swifty can't be the only one of the large screw you companies out there that will hire you.

Read my post above,... Schneider trained me in 1994, they wouldn't hire me desdpite 3.5 years experience because I didn't have 1 to 3 years recent over the road time. All the larger companies policies are that way because of their insurance carriers. That's why I suggested he go to small, local companies. Oh, by the way, I haven't seen it confirmed but I have heard this week while on the road that JB Hunt and Covenant have laid off drivers,... this economy is down farther that the politicos will admit, the lack of freight proves that!
