So as not to start a new thread about more or less the same thing.....

After an accident seven years ago, with a year or so of experience, thinking I would NEVER be dumb enough to want to go back to truck driving, I let my CDL lapse. I can get it back locally at a pretty reasonable cost for a refresher, and would like to get started again. I have no common sense or desire for a normal life.

I assume there is little to no chance of getting back in a truck on my own without at least doing some second seat work at one of the bigs. I'm willing to do that. I just wonder if anyone will take me on after that accident seven years ago. I paid a fine, and it's not on my MVR. I assume it's probably still on my DACs.

Before I invest anything in this, is there a cheap and easy way to review my own DACs and see what's on it? And have I got a snowball's chance of getting in a truck once I have the new CDL? Like, later, when the economy is not in the dumper and someone actually wants to ship something again?

    thanks!

My parents are thinking bout going back to NY and I might consider going with them. I know a number of companies who would take me. Also, I have family in PA, MO, and CA.

    Heh Mark,
Nice lawn ornament if the picture you posted is your new truck!
You may want to try MCT (Midwest Coast Transport). I'm not sure what the requirements are when you own your own truck.
I was going to drive someone elses truck for them and they wanted me to go to a three week orientation in Souix Falls, SD. I just couldn't afford the living expenses for three weeks.
Also, you may beable to get on with some dump trailer co. like Soil Tech. I'm not sure where you live in Fl, so I can't suggest any other local co's.
This may not be what you're looking for, but it may pay your truck payment until something better comes along.

I'm feeling pretty dumb about now Mark. I said "I'm not sure where you live in Fl", and it says "Apopka, Fl" right on your post.
Anyway, I think MCT has a terminal in Sanford or Deland.
I also know a guy that has trucks on Merritt Island and O/O working for him. I think you have to have your own dump trailer though.

Thanks flannel. Good thinking! The course isn't going to cost all that much, a few hundred, and the CDL can be used to do some local work, so it wouldn't be wasted anyhow... but I think doing a pre-hire a few times is real good idea. Give me some idea where I stand. I'll also be requesting/paying for my DAC report, just so what I say matches what they know, and what IS so.

Thanks for the compliment, that is my truck - as long as the payments are made. I did speak to MCT and they would take me if I hire a qualified driver, take him to SD and put him through a 1 1/2 day trainers course. I've heard decent things about them, plenty of miles and a good company. But, I prefer to avoid team running if possible. I'm on to a deal close to home that runs 48 states and will lease me as long as a proper certificate for a refresher course is provided. Will pull step deck which is what I pulled most of the 10 years experience I have. Hope to be rolling in about a week!

    Heh Bossman,
Try Windy Hill Transport in Eustis, Fl! I'm pretty sure they will hire you.
However, they send you with a trainer for 3-4 weeks at $350.00 per week and then you get around .27cpm.
Their website says they start "experienced" drivers at up to .39cpm, but even if you have 20+years experience, you're considered a student if you have no driving in the last five years.
I guess .27cpm is ok if you drive 3-4000 miles per week, but everyboby knows that ain't happenin' in this economy. You do get a .01cpm raise every three months up to one year. After one year I would be making the same I was making ten years ago. (.31cpm)
I went through the motions, driving test, drug test, and physical, assuming with 20+ years of experience I would start as an experienced driver, not a student. When I was told .27cpm, I figured if I was going to lose my house, I might as well stay home and watch it go.
Anyway, that was my situation, and not yours, so like I said, they will probably put you to work.
    Good Luck!
