You also had a redball customs sealed loads requiring a US Customs to visually sign off on it with containers importing to the customer from overseas. A pair of bolt cutters makes short work of that wire. Snip. But not before the reciever has a chance to verify that number.

Most of the time there are a few dozen extra seals in a box on the side so that if a police officer snipped it and searched that mexican flower load for drugs they can put in another seal number.

If it's a plastic seal I usually put it in my pocket and put it on just before delivery.... shipper doesn't care, receiver sometimes checks.
Just a seal being broken, = entire load refused and you are on the hook for it? If your insurance company is worth anything they will laugh in whoever's face who is trying to make that claim and somehow expect them to payout without even examining/counting the load...

If it isn't a bolt or cable seal I also use a padlock. Yes they can be cut with 3' bolt cutters. What those won't cut a hacksaw would. You can't mitigate ALL risk. Just gotta make smart decisions on where you park for the night I find. Example do I want to take my chances in Gary Indiana? Or would I rather get farther or shorter say on Indiana turnpike or up to Wisconsin or out to R place? Also better lighting while it means you may have to close curtains to sleep it deters thieves. Not all but most. Those rest areas where dot or cops are known to roll through periodically are also a good place to sleep. Just don't do it in a place where they may ask you to move if they show up to do inspections (NY/PA). Just avoid certain bad spots. All you can really do.

Jersey City was a high threat cargo theft area. They dont bother with seals on the back or the big padlock. They take the early battery tools and buzz through the walls itself in a few moments to get whatever is stacked against them. Electronics being the easier money conversion draw. There were ways to foil these cutters by catty cornering the big truck with valuables inside against the three stacked container walls in the corner.

And then the next truck is parked within 2 inches of yours. It becomes a mutual protection scheme.

Ultimately we stopped going there. Bypass it for either N. brandford Conn or down towards Elkton Md. Or brunswick Petro.

If the load needs to be sealed, that seal must be put in place by the shipper and removed by the receiver, to remove the driver from any investigations.

True, but how many shippers just hand you a seal with the paperwork?

Or how many actual good shippers and recievers who actually give a actual #### what that seal is doing on that load. They will walk out there with you to get it. Those are worth keeping as accounts.

My regular customer must really trust me. Just hands me the seal with paperwork. Receiver depends who is working, they claim to check it. Either way if it is a seal that does not require a tool to remove you should be putting some kind of lock on it also.

I still have a hard time believing a customer could say "seal not intact. You just bought the load." And actually have an insurance company payout for that. That would be bordering on insurance fraud I would think.

I used to do garments on hangers. We were told never to break the seal, but have an associate do it instead. One time this lady refused to because she was diabetic and was afraid of cutting her hand. As long as she was standing there, I did it. She was a little weird. She asked why a Petererbilt was shortened to Pete instead of Peter, and why is a Kenworth shortened to KW instead of Ken. Same delivery, I was told that CF would be going out of business within a couple years. They did.
