I never really realized how much I took my bedding for granted until I married my present wife six years ago. She is a bed fanatic (easy, now....I'm talkin' bedding here!) and made me appreciate "the rest of my life".

My Volvo 780 has a brand new Serta mattress on the top bunk and fold out dinette on the bottom bunk. I at first left the dinette up and used the top bunk but found I got better sleep on the bottom bunk. The top bunk.mattress is too soft, I like a firm mattress, so I sleep downstairs now, lol. Only takes a minute to fold the table and lay out the cushions and vice versa.

This would be funny except I see it all too often with quite a few drivers, more day cab than others. Whenever you do this, you are actually unconsciously conditioning yourself mentally that it's okay to fall asleep in the drivers seat, behind the wheel.

In answer to the OP, most big rigs cost big bucks. However, much like the coax that comes with the truck, most mattresses are of junk quality as well. Fine for school aged youngsters, not much use for grown ups.

Measure your bunk space first before you do anything else. Most fall somewhere between 40w x 80L. Like one of the other posters stated, go to a store and not a truck stop if you want to save money and get a feel of what you want to sleep on. It's worth the time to do it right and the investment you make when it comes to a good mattress in the truck can make all the difference to your quality of life behind the wheel and out on the road.
