Funny....I've been using cell phones in my trucks since 1986 and have never drifted out of my lane, run off the road, rolled the truck, missed an exit, hit a car or slowed down to half the speed of traffic around me like I see people in trucks AND cars doing every day! I see people that are ignorant enough to do these things on a daily basis but I have no idea how ANYONE can be that cluless! Gashauler....There are so many unqualified MORONS driving truck these days that it makes me sick! I wish it was just SWIFT but it's not! It is primarily the big bottom feeder companies that are guilty of these types of transgressions but sadly more and more often I'm seeing all types of people out here doing the same type of ignorant crap! Some of us refuse to lower our standards no matter what everyone else is doing but there are more and more people each day that find it easier and more convenient to aspire to the lowest common denominator.
I'm the new kinder, gentler Nana. *nods* So don't y'all tick me off and make me shoot y'all! It'll ruin my "good girl" rep with the mods! *sits mutter and making lists of targets* Yes Nik that was me calling. muwahahahahahahaha. Seriously, if a driver is dangerous.....I call in on him/her. If a driver is doing something disgusting I call in on him. Yes......I called in to the company and reported a driver urinating at the fuel pump. And no it was not a Swift driver. I offered to send them the photo I took on my handy dandy lil red cell phone and they wanted it. We all talk about holding other drivers responsible for their behaviors but DO we? Or do we just gripe about it? I decided to start doing something. Now.......that doesn't mean I'm not going to fuss and share with y'all the info when some dumb jerk butt parks in the freaking docks at a Wal-Mart for his 10 when I need to dock a load. I'll still be sharing that. But I'll be sharing it AFTER I call his company. And before someone asks: I report Swift drivers. I work for Swift and by golly I will not be embarrassed by other drivers without taking action. *nods* If I have a party Nik.......you can come. I never hold parties anymore so I can safely say that. LOL
About pretrips. In the 6 weeks I was in OTR training, I only saw a couple of drivers doing even a minimal pretrip. I was on alert for that kind of thing as a trainee. Did I just miss something? Or a lot of somethings? Right now I'm thinking that pretrips just ain't happening out there. Tell me I'm wrong. I really, really want to be wrong!
Pretrips and trailer change, I was (and am) hardnosed. Now, the 150 mile safety check was a tire thump/light check... Gashauler's been around long enough to know (and I seem to remember him saying so) that it's not all Swifties or just Swifties. With all the folks outta work with the CSA2010 and economy, I'm sure theres a lot of "fresh meat" out there aking bonehead mistakes.
You're 100% right I should have called the company and I have called companies in the past. And I agree with Black w900 it is the bottom feeders. Swift is going to get hit more because they have more units on the road than anyone else. And there are, I'm sure, good drivers coming out of Swift. But I believe they were good going in because of what I've seen on the road and read on this forum it seems they just lack the ideal safety program you would want with a major corporation. You can go around all you want and report whom ever you choose but before I'm going to report a driver that may cause him or her some explaining I perfer to make the issue about safety rather than behavioral or parking issues. So I apologize for making a statement without taking action for some idiotic unsafe behavior. However, my son was with me and he understands so there was some safe ground to be had.
You're wrong. No, you're not really wrong. That was one of the first things I noticed when I started. There are many drivers with a strong faith in something I'm not privy to. It still amazes when I see someone pull in, drop a trailer, hook to another one, deal with some paperwork and be back on the road in ten minutes.
We never go without a pre-trip or I should say I've never seen anyone go without one but we're hauling gasoline and I think that's the difference. Plus I've seen alot of drivers new and old do good safety checks all the time. But to see a guy get out barefooted and walk around the truck and tap a couple of tires with his fist is a first for me. Why even get out???
I see some look things over pretty good but many don't. I don't seem to see a lot of fuel haulers at truck stops or other places I stop, but as far as driving goes it is rare I see a fuel hauler who doesn't leave a very respectable following distance.
You sure he didn't go around back and pee on the tire? Saw a guy do that yesterday actually, right before he walked into the truck stop. Now this is a small truck stop in northern Ontario and it couldn't have more than a couple hundred feet from the cab of his truck to the washroom! Back on topic though...
