There seems to be a lot of people that get into the industry now days who just want to be prepaid for the entire year and not put in any of the work and have no responsibility.... I was speaking with a couple of people at the driving school, and one of them was complaining about how stupid it is for his actions off the job behind the wheel to affect his professional driving record. The kid is about 25 or less and looks like a guy you'd expect to crash into you in a sports car.

I'm learning to drive right now, getting my license the 23rd of this month, but I am nagging the hell out of my instructor for all the help and advice I can get and all the people on these boards for help and advice and looking at lots of videos and stuff all to make sure I DO NOT mess up! I'm even going back to training after I get my license because the CA DMV requires I do crap that are real bad habits that make driving much harder and much easier to crash.

I doubt a guy like that would notice if he was missing half his lug nuts on one wheel.

I've rarely seen drivers at the truckstops doing their pre-trips. I've had drivers mock me while doing mine.

The Vast Majority of drivers out there are not doing their inspections.

I hear ya. I've gotten my share of kaka while doing pre/post trips. I always told 'em "I'm running 100k lbs here, and I wanna be sure". 1 guy actually bought me breakfast for that response. He realized he was being a jerk to a new driver doing it right and wanted to make up for it. My kinda guy.:biggrin_255:

You've got a good attitude going in so keep that up. You're going to mess up, we all do. What you learn from that is what is important. It's good that you're doing your best to get all the information you can. I suggest that you right down notes so you can refer back when needed. I wish I had written down information that I tried my best to remember throughout the years. You can take notes on all matters of the road. Where's the best place to eat, or park, things like that along with the technical stuff. I would get a small note book that will fit in your shirt pocket. Then you can write down tips right there on the spot. You can also review the notes just before you do the task. You do that until it all becomes second nature to you.

It will all come to you sooner or later so you might want to relax a bit so you can concentrate on what is at hand. Could you please explain what you are saying about the DMV that you feel is unsafe? Maybe there's a different point of view.
