Haha Yup! I drove for COTC for over a year, before going dedicated intermodal to be home almost every night & weekends.
Tarped 90% of the loads. I actually kept track. Heavy 8ft drop SOBs, too. And rarely, but sometimes, no forklift to get that tarp on top of the load.
Still, I made good money with them!

I'll say this about COTC, after watching their series on how to tarp a load on YouTube, I'm considering setting up my tarps the way they do and welding on some hooks below the rail.

It's not bad. Unless you are in a noreaster in Reading with those hills concentrating the 50 mph steady wind. A covered wagon is the best. Even then you will be putting on 3 bungees per hole when you hit the plains and texas wind that wont quit, particularly ahead of the dry line during storms.

Compared to a straight deck flat, a covered wagon is so easy, just more detail and routine.

Tarping and securement should be a point of pride, not a point of #####ing and moaning.

Next time you haul something that cannot get wet, video tape it being unloaded and then water hoses aimed at it.

Pipe is about as close as you can get to non tarp loads, however you have other issues to deal with such as the last strap at the end of the deck working loose until you learn to put that strap closer to the middle of the bundle.

Some companies like to hire a tarp man that does nothing but tarp trailers that have been loaded that day and will go out the following morning. Just wait until you have yourself a canvas bundle about as big as you are and just as heavy that needs to go up top of say 13 feet above the ground of roofing foam for example.

A little old, but if you're still looking.

    Check
Ericksons- crane mats, counter weights etc.
Vans Delivery- runs conestogas and roll curtains
    Kirkstra's precast
Seems like there's a pre cast place by Ericksons too?

Not too long ago Thiesenkryp was looking for a shuttle driver to Toledo daily. They run conestogas and they have crews that secure every load as well. Pretty much no touch flatbed work.

In the last month and a half, I got paid to tarp 4 loads. 2 of the I actually tarped. One was done in the yard by the paid tarping crew, the last was tarped by the shipper.

Fer a flatbedder, I getting pretty darned LAZY!
