"No trucks this lane" restrictions are put in place to protect the motoring public as well as the truck drivers due to the low speed trucks travel when heavily loaded. Often, truck drivers will have a light load or no load and think they can go as fast as 4 wheelers and in many cases they can.
However, regardless of their weight, they are still restricted in the left lane when posted. Unfortuntley, some truck drivers dont understand the rules until they get caught and a hefty fine is given for this lane violation.
If I were you, I would ask law enforcement to step up there presence in this area. You would be doing everyone a huge favor by doing so.
I have been a truck driver for eight years and educated in law enforcement. I hope this works for you and good luck.

I can't believe some of the replies to the OP in this thread. Come on guys, (and/or gals,) the OP has a legitimate complaint. There is no need to be rude or condescending to her.

FWIW, I've got a lot of miles under my belt in a big truck. I've also got a lot of miles under my belt on a motorcycle. Not to mention a lot of miles in a four wheeler.

Nobody is immune to making mistakes, no matter what they are driving. And there are idiot drivers that are driving everything.

I remember one time that I stopped at a stop sign, and had a couple pull up beside me on their Harley. The guy yelled at me, "YOU COULD HAVE KILLED US BACK THERE."

The fact is, that I have NO IDEA what the hell he was talking about. I watch my mirrors religiously, and I had not seen them until I noticed them coming up behind me, (at high speed) about a quarter of a mile before the intersection.

Now I'm sure that I screwed up in some way here, but I've never figured out just what it was. This happened about 10 years ago, and it still bothers me...:biggrin_2552:

Well, to go with the OPs comment, it's never OK for a truck to swing into another lane, cutting someone off, almost hitting someone, etc.

That has nothing to do with what lane it is and goes simply to those drivers' common sense. Maybe, though, you also weren't expecting it because you figured 'no trucks' would mean they'd obey their sign. As a trucker myself, I know that people do their own thing and you have to watch out for the most bizarre behavior out of everyone, trucks and cars.

I had a guy pass me, hit his brakes, and do a u-turn on a two-lane road just yesterday. Meanwhile, I'm hitting my brakes just trying to avoid rear-ending him. Why? Because, as I saw in my mirror, hot-rod missed his turn while he was just finishing up passing me. Geniuses.

I hate the no truck lanes in Houston, we pay way more in taxes. We should get to use what we pay for. I can understand lane restrictions in the hills, but not on flat ground.

The biggest problem is that more and more people today are making decisions based on their own selfish needs and they're not stopping to think "How will it affect the other person."
Trucking today is flooded with these types. They block the fuel islands because they're too lazy to park and walk(most of the time) they drive like maniacs thru the truck stops, they cut in front of you instead of waiting when your trying to back in a spot and yes they jump in front of you without any concern for you.

In our me, me me society trucking is no exception. I will never jump out in front of anyone for any reason especially trucks for obvious reasons. However, If I am going to get mouse trapped by staying in the lane that I am in, I will jump into the left lane if a 4 wheeler has enough time to safely slow down. That's one of the problems though. People don't want to be slowed down for any reason. ( I don't mean cutting them off to where they have to brake really hard either) Any trucker will tell you that when you use your left signal today, most people will usually speed up rather than slow down. (me me me me)

If they want to keep trucks out of the left lane then they need to keep the rest of the traffic (trucks included)in the right lane unless they are passing and I don't mean 2 or 3 mph faster.
If you're going to pass, Pass! Don't just sit there!

Once I am back over in the right lane, the 4 wheeler can accelerate without any problem and a minimal loss of time. A lot of problems could be solved if society would take the responibility of educating the General Public on how to drive around trucks. But just like everything else in this world there is no accountability with people. That's why truck parking is a problem. Nobody wants to take responsibility for this.

    NO TRUCK PARKING? NO DELIVERIES!

If it takes less than 15 minutes then you don't need to log it.

Deals Gap is best run at night so you can see the on coming headlights! But I used to live up there and ran nothing but the mountains my first 7 years of driving and The Dragon isn't that bad! I had no choice in the matter as I had to deliver to the stores along that fun stretch of road! Rookies should stay away but like I always say it's a fun run!
