Yeah this is a really awkward situation that's for sure sometimes its not so simple as to saying well plan you trip cause regardless of planning no one can know for sure whether the truck stop parking bays will be filled to capacity that's why I'd often just drive straight through cause i knew the places would be full and stop at a wall mart and park down the back during the night no one would bother you i found. Especially if you make sure you go in and buy something you can actually say well I'm a customer its kinda hard for them ask you to leave.

My favorite is when some desperate fools are "looking for company in the back row". LoL, really dude..? Pathetic, just pathetic...

Best Advice on this thread.
That E-Log is a Killer...especially come time to shut her down- Losing too much Revenue when you have to Kill the Drive 1 to 2 hours short each day.
And they say E-logs Work..Sure,They DoCanadianhauler21, Tall Mike, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -
In my one year of driving I only never found a place to park 2 times. Once there was an accident and the interstate closed, was 3 hours over my 14. Put a note in my remarks, ended up parking on a shoulder that night. 2nd time I drove straight to a customer and was insured by dispatch that I could sleep on site. Got there and said no sleeping on site, no truck stop or rest area within 60 miles. Slept in a mall parking lot.
Like someone else here said, after a while you can get a feel on the parking situation in certain areas. If your company pays for reserve parking you can take advantage of that too. Just try to plan your day ahead of time, it won't always work but hopefully it will.FlaSwampRat and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
One of the benefits of driving overnight is always having parking when you are finished with your day.
If your schedule allows it, consider it. Night driving is very peaceful. If I could Id never drive during the day.frito bandito, FlaSwampRat, Six9GS and 4 others Thank this. -

Amen to this!!!!
2 weeks in a row I've ran nights 4 of every 6 days. SOOOOOO much easier to find parking. Its like most drivers are scared of the dark or something. I remember when I was a kid the big road looked like a River Flooded with Chicken Lights!Albertaod, x1Heavy, FlaSwampRat and 3 others Thank this. -
Find a nice interstate exit off ramp with a wide shoulder, cross straight over the intersection to the on ramp part, then park and close the curtains. Maybe turn your parking lamps on.
