You are something else. You think you’re better than everyone because you can still run paper logs. Big deal. I make 100k a year and don’t need to work that hard to do it. Quit acting like everyone younger than you is an idiot and you’re some sort of savant. You’re a truck driver like everyone else. I could teach a monkey to drive a truck.

Absolutely right- many Drivers don't "Care". When I say "Care" They could give a rats butt whether they service on time or not. Maturity will change that.

I get Sick to my stomach If I have a load of Steel going to my regulars If Im late 1 minute.Even at my age.

Like I say- I think an ELD is Good for Linehaul Drivers (Start /stop same place), Local Drivers- Or guys that do a Regular Run daily.

I order Chinese, pizza, or wings to the truck all the time. Especially in the northeast. I ended taking a 34 in the Shaw's holding lot one time in Methuen, MA. They brought the Chinese right to the truck

Time is valuable. I always do my best to deliver at the crack of dawn. If I cant do that, I will try to get it off before noon. I have 3 coils to drop off in New Jersey with a window of 7 - 11. Bet I am empty before dispatch gets to work haha

I never said I did. I just said that you cheated.

As many have said, there are definitely good strategies that increase the odds of getting a good place to park for your 10 hour break. Here are mine:

    1. Don’t think you’re going to drive for 11 hours and be able to magically find a spot. I generally plan for 9 1/2 to 10 hours of driving (including my 30 minute break). You never know what the day will bring, could be accidents or road construction or just bad traffic, and even if you don’t run into any of that, you might need that extra hour to find a good spot.

    2. Start your day as early as possible. I like to be rolling by 5 am if I can, as mentioned there are a lot more spots at 4 pm than at 8 pm.

    3. Have two or three places in mind. I usually have a place that I want to park, and a place before (in case of delay) and a place farther (in case my preferred spot is full).

    4. I don’t drive a dedicated route, but I do find myself driving to and from a bunch of places fairly consistently, and I’ve collected a bunch of favorite spots, places I can generally find a place to park.

    5. If all else fails (and it only has twice in the last six months), I’ll park on the shoulder of an entrance ramp (NEVER on an exit ramp).

Good Advice- But if everyone started at 4-5am (Which many do) then getting a spot at 4-5pm will get even harder. Which,If you see,They do start filling up at 4.

It's a product of way too many trucks on the road number 1. There';s no shortage- Don't ever believe that.

That Loves keeps building New truckstops- But seems like no relief still.

I'm 52, so old, but young at heart.
I love Elogs...not even mandatory here until June of 2021, already installed them into half of my trucks, the rest are old enough to be exempt. Just grab the tablet, tap a button, and done. I gave each one of my drivers a tablet to use. It doesn't matter which truck they are in, the little gizmo plugged in under the dash automatically connects to the tablet in the truck. They start by entering their pre trip inspection, and anything they may have found wrong. It registers the exact time the truck was started up automatically, and really they don't even have to log in as driving, because once the truck hits 10 kms/hr it automatically registers them as driving. My drivers also love it, and hate being in the old trucks with paper log books now.

There may be a shortage, there may not be. The parking issue dont suggests too many trucks on the road. It suggests that truck stops will put a truck stop anywhere, but parking will be no more than 50 - 80 spots. Iowa 80 is a good example of how a truck stop should be. I like that one in Cuba, MO with the 10 dollar buffet
