The clutch makes a grumbling noise when I let it out and at low rpm /speed. Throw out bearing? The clutch has less than 100000 miles on it. And has been noisy since day one. Anybody use a Lipe clutch? Thinking about yanking this one out.

There's been an interference issue of the flywheel bolts and the forward clutch disc on Cat engines when the clutch is replaced. A special thin washer is used on the flywheel bolts to correct the issue. The grumbling is the clutch disc hub rubbing the bolt heads until the clutch hooks up to the flywheel, then the noise subsides until the next time the clutch is slipped for takeoff.
Darwood Thanks this. -

When the clutch was changed out, was flywheel turned? Bearing replaced? Brake replaced?
Like other posters mentioned, CAT has a washer that gets installed with it. Also, is noise while still in motion or stopped completely? If rolling slow, it could be transmission. If stopped and foot down, might need an adjustment.
Problem we see a lot is other technicians will replace clutch, then do a quick adjust for play. Problem is, they never adjust the clutch linkage. A proper adjustment involves both, along with looking at the clutch. When clutch is pressed down, look in the site hole and see that you have a 1/2 inch of space minimum between flywheel and pressure plate face. Then tak a screwdriver and try to see if clutch brake can move. There should be no movement at all. If no 1/2 inch is sen or play in brake, adjust linkage. After linkage is done, then adjust clutch freeplay.
I adjust both on every clutch I change. It only takes another 10 to 15 minutes to do and prevents a comeback. I am paid to do the work right. I lose money on comebacks so I adjust both to prevent it in he first place.
Give it a try and see how this works out. If your clutch is under warranty, have a shop do the adjust. Tell the tch to do the new TMC recommended adjustment, not the old quick freeplay adjustment. There is a difference between the two. -
I have an 07 Volvo 780 with the eaton fuller 10 spd autoshift, 3 pedal with clutch, volvo d12 engine. 668k miles. I have a noise/rattle coming from the bell housing. When sitting at idle it is there almost constantly. When rolling and my foot is on the gas it disappears, it is most noticeable when I am coasting and take my foot off the gas pedal, it gets even worse if I am coasting and on a rougher surface/bouncing. Still in those situations it is not constant, it comes and goes for seconds at a time usually depending on where I hold the accelerator pedal, and of course I can feel it in the pedal. Any ideas?
