So, you going to stop carrying the banner for Swift and find yourself a real company to work for one of these days?

And if you do, don't go cheap. I got a cheap dash cam as a gift. It was great, albeit with really crappy video quality, right up until I needed it. I had a case of bambicide last year at night. It was a glancing strike off the passenger side. I clicked the button on the dash cam to save the video, knowing there wasn't enough impact to automatically record.

I downloaded the file. It had crappy night time video and audio right up until about three seconds before and after impact. The audio was fine, but the video froze and I didn't get a ###### thing showing how the deer came racing out of the pitch black night to end her life.

Get a GOOD video camera. Something with enough resolution to read license plates and reliable enough to actually record an event.

Probably not for at least a year now. That's a preventable DOT recordable accident to go with the failed level 2 post crash and an improper lane change all rolled into one event, combined with my 700 dollar 3rd lane in California ticket and my 1450lb overweight on my trailer axle in Missouri ticket where I tried to scale my load at the truck stop and their cat scale was down, so I ran it toward the next truck stop to scale it and got red lit on the prepass for a scale that said closed a few seconds before and they nailed me good on that one.

So no, probably not for a while. Just paid for a copy of my PSP and it only lists one inspection with no violations, no crashes and no tickets. But if/when I try to go to another company and fail to mention them anyway, Swift won't fail to mention me having a preventable accident.

Not sure what to do either because I was consistently getting over 3000 miles every week unless I went home. Now I'm very lucky to run 2800. In fact in the last 8 weeks, I've only gotten 2800 miles one time. It's like they know leaving isn't an option and that I have a truck which I can't afford to let sit and so they are starving me out of it.

Are you in a lease now? I thought you were a company driver.

I went through a bank to purchase I truck. Payment is just over half of what I would have had to pay for a lease. I can take this truck with me whenever. However, that's only in theory... because Swift is going to take a fat red marker to my DAC if I do lol

I have a ps to this thread, I just received a copy of the police report. Below is the graphic/diagram of the accident that is part of the report.

Needless to say, my son was in the truck in heavy traffic. As you will see, there was a 3rd vehicle involved that sustained some damage from vehicle 2 being pushed into it by the collision. All of the damage to the 2 cars was relatively cosmetic in that they were able to drive away from the scene. There was no damage to the truck. This accident occurred around 10 PM-ish, which is the first part of my son's nighttime LTL run, so it was early in the work day for him and fatigue should not be a factor. The report is long, but from skimming it I do not see that anyone was issued a ticket for an unsafe lane change, even though, to a layperson, this seems like this sure meets upload_2017-7-31_11-1-47.png the definition of one - if car 2 wasn't engaged in an unsafe lane change, then I guess I'm in an alternate universe somewhere far, far away. I looked up the statute in the state where the accident occurred, and this is what I found:

    (a) requires drivers to remain in one lane and changing from that lane is not permitted unless the driver ascertained that moving lanes could be completed safely. (b) directs that passing other vehicles or making a left turn from a center lane can only be done if executed in a safe manner.

Can anyone confirm their thoughts about blowback to my son? I'm still believing this will all work out OK. Thanks again everybody: upload_2017-7-31_11-1-47.png

    Today. Buy a good dashcam.

That thing will eliminate he said she said they said and so on.

Today. Buy it. I have said this over and over. It's going to happen again and again, several times a year Ive dealt with people like that. The last one was on the cross bronx towards the GWB with 4 in a car that tried that on me in the rain. If they made dash cams that year (They did not...) it would be my number one video.

What these idiots don't understand that a new or nearly new ABS system at full function is a living god that I worship and use when I need to. That thing has made what would be a proper wreck something where It's avoidable.

I'm convinced about the dashcam, want to order it. I know nothing of brands etc, and I've never driven a truck myself, so if any of you have general practical advice I would appreciate it. Will speak to son when I get home from work, before he leaves - I should get his buy-in on the one I order.

In regards to ABS, I'll have to ask son, but I suspect the trucks he has been driving don't have it - they are older trucks. He has a "hub run" where he does yard jockey work for 2 hours and then runs between terminals for the rest of his shift. I think the linehaul drivers are the ones that get the newer trucks. He is supposed to have the opportunity to move into linehaul in November-ish, after he's been with the company for 6 months.

Someone hit you while you were stopped, you have cam footage that shows you weren't moving at the time and you were held responsible? That's messed up.
