LOL, nope you don't have to take up smoking. But, you'll need a strong stomach and thick skin.

Worse that smokers.... People who hover. Say what you want about us smokers. The "germ" conscious people are THE NASTIEST people on the planet. As they frequently "hover" over the toilets, creating a holy mess that needs to be cleaned with chemicals prior to any further use. Not to mention turning you stomach when found.

Hmmm....do I want to smell like smoke? Or do I wish to catch some form of disease, and take it home to my entire family...because some "neat freak" can't properly use other tools within the industry that 1000's of others must use on a daily basis.

Can you pee at the urinal? This is a great thing to learn, as the toliet seat is made for butt cheeks, not shy bladders.

Do you wash you hands before, or after taking a wiz ? Both would be the correct answer for most. Since most germs are picked up from the door handle then transered to your "tools". If your tool is so nasty you wash afterwards, but not before...then overall hygiene may be a problem.

Just my thoughts about being forced to use toilets after others....as another poster commented about driving a truck that had been previously smoked in...pointed out.

I learned with a smoker, and when I finally got my own truck I was so fortunate in getting one that was never smoked in. Came complete with a no smoking sign and all! It was still dirty and I have spent a lot of time cleaning, but not having to get cigarette smell out was great!

Get hold of a truck that has had a "pet" in it, or a truck that the driver was a slob and the cab is saturated with coffe spills, food dropped and ground in, the smell of urine that comes from who knows where!! You won't be cleaning these odors out, they are there to stay !!

I'm a smoker, for that I apologize. But you make a better point than the original poster of this thread.

I can't tell you the number of foul smelling trucks I have been in, that absolutely made me want to hurl.

They may have smelled like smoke, but it's hard to tell over the other odors.

And what about the people with "animal" allergies? Guess that's not considered a TRUE national health issue within the trucking community.

instagatorman... that sounds EWWWW gross. Boy, I hope I never have to be in a truck like that. The truck I trained in has all the encrusted liquids spilled all over the floor, and was pretty dirty inside, but NOTHING like what you described.... GROSS!

I see you know my first trainer :biggrin_25523: he was supposed to grade me on my cleanlyness, he had no room to talk!

I got up one morning to drive and my shoes kept sticking to the pedals, he said 'sorry I dropped a pop there earlier' one other time I was driving he was eating nachos he tossed the cheese covered lid on top of my practise log that I have to turn in after training. he said 'oh sorry' :biggrin_25510:

Well Im very lucky to have a truck with Scneider that wasn't smoked in. I can't even smell the slightest bit of smoke in there.

First, fidn out of your company even slip seats, if they do, then you might heave to clean it out all over again or something.

IF not and its assigned to you only, then Id suggest what others have, spend a day or so on one of your days off just delousing the heck out of it, lol. Bleach where you can. An odor eliminating thing like Oust.

The bed and matress will be a big sponge of funk....if you can, swap it out.

The seats will be a big issue too, anything with a cloth will be a major smell sponge. Might seriously have to get a rug doctor and buy their odor remover solution. That might be your best bet.

Any foam insulation in the condo roof if you have one, should be cleaned too.

    door paneling, cloth.
    seat belts.

This is especially bad if you are allergic to smoke and have asthma attacks. My dispatcher told me I am "too picky and truck has been cleaned. Quit complaining" I have tried going thru dispatch, safety director, and safety director's supervisor. No one listens or has changed my truck assignment. I am in a loaner truck that is even worse than my original truck. Can't breathe, sore throat and scratchy voice, feels like a knee is in my chest. I guess I need to wreck the truck while having an asthma attack and then they will believe me.....but will be fired for having an accident. No way to win. I need to stay here a bit longer because I have not driven in a while and need to get time back in saddle. Am seriously thinking of a lawsuit, but cannot afford to be slammed on DAC report, and am sure that will happen. Any ideas? Febreze, air freshener, white vinegar etc do not work......as you know smoke permeates fabric, plastic, and cannot be removed........
