A sheetrockers or roofer's hammer has a blade on the end opposite the hammerface, which could have an edge ground on it. The roofers use theirs dull, but some sheetrockers sharpen theirs a bit.
I'd REALLY hate to get hit with one.

I've read through the entire thread and I'll add my thoughts...

My primary job for many years has been basically teaching people (mainly law enforcement and military) how to stay alive. I've used portions of Western Boxing, Wrestling, Brazilian jui-jitsu, Muay Thai and Kenpo Karate in my classes. I've trained personnel to use edged weapons, all types of impact weapons (including the kubaton that is mentioned frequently in this thread), Oleoresin Capsicum (pepper spray), handguns, shotguns, rifles, improvised weapons, etc. I'm not trying to type out a resume here, but hopefully you get the picture...

To begin, aviodance is the best advice. Avoid all potential situations if possible. Be smart and make smart decisions.

A firearm will generally always provide the greatest level of protection...

For all of the items listed below, attempt to seek professional intruction from a reputable instructor.

A Kubaton can be a very useful and destructive tool. They can be purchased for a few bucks on many on-line websites (there really isn't any need to 'make' one). As far as legality is concerned, once you know how to use the Kubaton, try this experiment: Take a AA Mini-mag flashlight (easily purchased at Wal-Mart for about $10.00) and try the same techniques. They will work exactly the same. "Legal" problem solved. Plus you have a reliable light source. :)

4, 5 or 6 C cell Mag-lites work great for a larger 'legal' impact tool. Also the $4 hickory 'tire-knockers' found in truck-stops...

A large container of OC (pepper spray) is a great tool. Know the exact spray content, pattern and range. Google "Fox 5.3". It's the "hottest" and works the fastest (in my experience). Expect it NOT to work (at all or for at least 8 seconds) and be prepared to fight like you never had it---just in case...

Edged weapons are great, but to be justified in using one, deadly force must be justified. In other words, to justifiably use an edged weapon on someone, the situation would warrant the use of a firearm. Edged weapons are also viewed as criminalistic in courtrooms. If the use of one was needed, I wouldn't hesitate... I'm just saying to be careful and think ahead...

A combination of the items listed above would be better, depending on the specific situation. The most important thing is to think and anticipate what could happen and have a pre-set plan in your brain.

    Be Safe.

While I haven't read this entire post, one solution that works VERY WELL, wasp killer. Yep, they will spray about 20', if you get it near their face should stop them instantly and give you time to get out of there. PLUS... It is legal to carry and everyplace sells it.

    Take care, Larz
