That is the gizmo I was referring to in post #6 of this thread, last paragraph.
There are also some that are pointed on one end, making them real handy in a bad situation.

Yeah, I'd wanna sharpen it; no playing around. And stiletto comes to mind, but that's of course classified (I would imagine) as a switchblade, and illegal.

I think I'm going down to the shop to make one of those. Nice to always have something and I hate a knife in the pocket; can't stand the bulk.

I just don't think I need a weapon... I drive around with the doors locked, I sleep in well lit areas... I don't carry any cash or get out looking like an easy mark...

I've never had a single problem ever, even in the nasty neighborhoods...

A stray bullet might get me but that wouldn't change regardless of my choice of tools to carry.

Personally, I think you guys are all in a panic and are paranoid... lol

crime exists, but you have to look like you have something the other person wants

    or

you really have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time with a very vicious non-theft related attacker...

I got a better chance of winning the lottery than being on the eleven o'clock news... from that scenario...

each to his own, just saying, you'll probably fall asleep driving and kill yourself statistically first, and yet you keep getting in the car or truck and driving... make sense???

Im not in a panic or paranoid just always gotta be prepared for the what if right? You just never know if someone is gonna try to attack or rob you. Like the new country song says, God is great, beer is good, and PEOPLE ARE CRAZY!

I'm glad you have enough faith in humankind that you don't think one would ever harm you if you don't first give him reason. No offense meant, but, that very naivete is what gets folks killed. As for me, I'll stay prepared, which is a long way from being paranoid. The primary weaon in any conflict is you.

    each to his own...

    always good to be prepared....

I just prefer to prepare in a statistically oriented fashion.

chances are you will not get robbed and suffer any serious physical consequences... to me its more a faith in math than my fellow man...

wear my seat belt, keep a cushion of cash, invest wisely, carry insurance... mine is just a policy instead of a weapon.

most people don't like conflict, so we all tend to get along quite well...

unarmed people generally prefer to not escalate a situation whereas armed individuals feel more comfortable and less risk when they are carrying an equalizer...

I don't know the actual statistic here but like 95% of the crime happens in the same area repeatedly... and most of the murders and physical abuses come from loved ones, not unknown assailants...

a female is more apt to need a gun to protect herself from her boyfriend than from someone she never met.

when I think of wet roads, icy roads, fork lifts zipping around, slipping off the truck, slipping in a spill, stumbling in a chuck-hole...

    well... these I consider worrisome...

*pulls up his belt* I'll have a whiskey... STRAIGHT... and I'll stab you with my sharpened toothbrush or club you with my thermos if you try any of that robbing stuff with me...

I know this: there has been a LOT of crime done to people in truckstops. I just don't want to get caught with my pants down, so I'll always be 1.) attentive and 2.) prepared.
And when the big guy jumps the little guy, what are you gonna do? Run and let him get hit? Stand there and pee your pants?
I usually will step in if I see a definitive wrong. Well, happened a couple times in my life, so may again. It's a poor example of a man who won't stand for right, including those with all the excuses.
Good call on the thermos. Bet those would HURT, man!
