So then....If you're young you have an excuse for not flushing or crapping all over the floor?
I'm just trying to get this straight here.
Why do you assume that it's just the older hands that are doing this?
The other question that I have to ask here is....If I was to dribble some piss on the floor for some reason, What am I supposed to do about it?
Mop the floor?
That's why they have a maintenence staff.
I see filthy behaviour everyday and there are no age requirements to be a slob apparently because I see young and old alike pissing on the floor and making a mess in the stalls.
I see young and old alike walking right passed all of the free soap and water after using the restroom.
I have actually seen posts on these forums by people that say they don't wash their hands because the "sinks are dirty"....How pathetic is that?
These people are filthy slobs pure and simple and are just trying to justify it with a stupid excuse.
Age and experience has NOTHING to do with it!volvodriver01, Wicked Wizard, Wargames and 3 others Thank this. -
<<<Age has no meaning in this line of work when it comes to those topics.>>>
Right on, EZ Money. I read the OP and was gonna reply initially...maybe that's all he/she wanted was replies...but I decided not to. Not because I'm an "old guy" but because I'm tired of it. It's not just this thread or even this forum or the internet...it's all over. I try my best to recall the way I saw the elders in the biz when I was coming up and I was not that way. Yep, I was envious of Dad and the brothers that were at the top of the seniority list on a seniority first based dispatch and I didn't like all the loads that nobody else wanted but I knew that was the way and I earned my way doing that. I've helped out when I was young and I help today when I can. And on top of that, it makes no difference the age of the person I see that needs help. It's just the way this "old" guy was raised I guess. Thanks, Mom & Dad.
Taking a shower, hygiene and respect...these things have no age association. To call out old guys and list these kind of things because you witnessed some do it is as wrong as me calling out ALL new guys that I see don't wash their hands after using the bathroom or smell when they walk by me. Yep, I have my opinions but they are not age related and being a guy that has been around for quite a few years, I've seen (and smelled) just about everything. Was it an inspired Solomon that said "There is nothing new under the sun"?
I see a new generation that seems to me to have self-inflicted trouble ahead. Self-inflicted by attitudes and false expectations that bypass all the previous rules of earning your respect, not demanding it. But I won't be so blind as I once was to say all the new generation is like this. I know some really great young people with good heads on their shoulders.
To the OP: Maybe that old guy you saw sitting in his truck and not getting out to help you back in had recently been (maybe more than once) blown off by a new driver that didn't want to be perceived as a driver that can't get it in the hole as quick as some others. Maybe he was scolded by driver Attitudey Judy when he opened the door for what he first perceived as a lady. Maybe in his many journeys, he had been approached thousands of times by beggars and would-be thieves along with a few genuine needy folks that wanted what his old #%# might have. And maybe one of these innocent looking times, it was a couple of decent looking young guys that needed to borrow a Phillips screwdriver in a rest area in broad daylight north of Atlanta (now closed down) and when they returned to his cab, shot him with a .22 caliber pistol that ended up bouncing or reflecting off his chin and not really doing a whole lot of harm other than making him mad & causing restless sleep for a few months. Maybe it ain't about age. Maybe it's about people...any gender, any age, any race, any color, etc etc etc. Not all young people shoot folks in the face and not all old guys visit the toilet without washing their hands afterward.
As far as CB's, trucks, etc go...I tend to purchase with my earnings what I need, can afford and want...usually in that order now. That order has changed over the years as I aged and gained a little wisdom. Again with the Good Book reference but a once not-so-gentle gentleman named Paul in there mentioned that "he was once young but now he is old". That being a reference to how he saw things in life when he was young was not always the right way to look at things...in this case we are talking about people. And one more reference...about that white hair on the head being a sign of wisdom. You'll have to sort that out on an individual basis but it's never good to judge a book by it's cover...or while it's sitting behind the steering wheel...or driving a shiny truck....talking on his high-powered CB....with his antennas leaning forward....and his air seat sitting on the floor....with his 300 chicken lights illuminating the way.
I once was a young guy of 16 or so. I once had a girlfriend that I would eventually marry and raise a family with. After the daughters have grown into families of their own, she remains with me still today after 39 years. Why, I'm not sure but she has...and every one of those years but the first 2 spent in military service, I have been trucking as an owner/op. I am not demanding you respect me for the fact that I've been in this biz for so long. Never once said that. I'm not calling seniority on anything. I'm still operating like I did on day one in a rapidly changing industry throwing everything it can at separating me from my hard earned George Washingtons. I have no chip on my shoulder. Just because I have endured more days & years than you have to date, does not mean that 16 year old boy does not still reside inside me. But that young guy has experienced things that have demanded he place them all in proper order and file them away to be called on when the day arises...defragment, as your new generation might put it. Kindness & respect was there for the 16 year old guy, it just wasn't used as much because the files were all fragmented and scattered and there was probably a lot more testosterone diluting the good judgement needed when kindness & respect should have been the order of the situation.
Being old is not an automatic disqualification. Gaining age is not a sign one does not desire cleanliness and hygienic attitudes or does not display kindness & respect to others. Yes, age has it's drawbacks but I wouldn't trade my years today for anything. I'm happy where I am and contrary to what a lot of younger folks seem to think, I am still relevant in my world because I still create, serve, protect, respect, work, provide, support and clean myself after natural bodily functions. And...I have been told by my granddaughter that I am the best smellin' Papaw ever.
That's enough for me.
Signed,
Old Trucker Guy -
I assume it's the fat ones that can't see their junk and just aim n hope...Wargames, Scott101 and notezbngrn71 Thank this.

That's all that counts
The Truckist Thanks this. -
I hear you....its not just an age thing, I agree. Just because you're old, don't feel like I singled you out. Before you get all pissy again, I have grandkids, so I take resemblence to that remark just the same.
The Truckist Thanks this. -
At 33, I'm not young or old....so I guess I'm in my prime! Lol
Seriously get over it. Its called paying your dues. We all have and will continue to do so. Want respect? Stop whining like a girl and suck it up.
One of these days you will be able to piss standing up with the rest of the men... -
Well, Thanks ?, Wharf Rat, for the comment. But I wasn't even pissy yet. I was only replying to your original post that sounded like you were calling out old dudes with the title...Noob Rant To Old Guys.
I'm glad you see that it's not age related now.
Congrats on the grandbabies, you old codger. Now go wash your hands.Wharf Rat Thanks this. -
We all appreciate you taking some time out of your day to join us.

If you're old and coming out of the bathroom, you're experienced with a toilet, or you should be. Quit pissing on the floor and shatting all over the toilet and then just walking away like it wasn't you.[/QUOTE]
Your hard pressed to blame the condition of the bathroom on "old" drivers......how bout some responsibility of the Pilot operators that don't have the place adequately staffed to take care of the volume of drivers AND 4-wheelers that use the facility? Pilot is the worst for this. They want you to "gas and get lost".
I agree there are filthy animals out here on the road, but the T/S has some culpability too!
