Texasbbqbest: $35-$40k net may be hard to pull off since driving 2500 miles per week at $.40/mile for 40 weeks of the year gets you a Gross of $40k. Even if you have zero tax liability, Social Security and Medicare knock you down to $37k.
How long do you plan to stay out, how much more expensive will you eat on the road (varies widely), health insurance premiums, and other personal factors make figuring out a person's net darn near impossible.
I figured 12 weeks off out of 52 when doing the math (1 week/month). If you're moving to TX there are a lot of companies posting and some offer relocation bonuses (US Xpress for one). I'm going to school for Roehl's CDL class so I'm not trying to push any company since everybody's needs are different. Some people are even happy at CR England and Prime and those companies seem to have more dissatisfied former drivers than some states have people! -
I drove for Tankstar.

Yeah, I had a feeling 35K-40K was a little high, and I calculated for 52 weeks instead of 40 (which now I realize was stupid because its not likely to work every single day of the year!).
I am single and have a dog. I don't really have anything that I need to come home to (other than visiting family every once in a while). I may not even have an apartment or anything, and will probably use my Grandfather's address as my home of record.
Not sure if I want to go Tanker or Reefer, but I do know that I'd like to run Long Haul. I'm not really a flatbed kind of person I don't think.
I'll check out USXpress. Prime looks pretty good too.
Having a little trouble finding companies that allow dogs, but I have just been looking on websites and sometimes the info is outdated, so I need to actually call or email them.
There is a chance that my family might be able to loan me some money for trucking school which will open up a lot more doors.
Oh and I don't know if I said this, but I don't turn 21 until June 2015, so I still have plenty of time to figure it out!
Thank you for your advice! -
I'm curious I see some companies offering .45-.50 CPM and I'm wondering how they do this? does anyone have any feedback if its a real or if they are just using smoke and mirrors?

Probably union jobs...read the fine print, that could be team pay..I would realistically expect to make 30-40k first year depending on who you work for.Thediamond13 Thanks this.
