there is a lot of freight in the northeast, just don't look at the big crap companies, there are a lot more smaller companies that handle specific freight up here.

in maine? haul lumber, plenty of flatbed companies up there. lj kennedy sucks, but you might go for some of the others up there, bellevance trucking out of barre vt is up there, along with plenty of others.

if you want dry van, try hartt trucking, i have heard that they are ok

And some are concerned with the truck stops we have. Not always big and we don't have tons of them. But there are many companies, its just a matter of locating the one to suit you

I believe you're never going to get a complete picture on copmpanies by looking on the computer. You can use it as a tool but IMHO I think it's best to go out and find the company that you want. You can find many places that list companies but just know the better companies do not advertise. You may walk into an office and they need a driver right then and there. You never know until you use all the resources.

have you actually ever been "up here"...?? it's as trucker friendly as O-H-I-O will ever be....i'm glad YOU refuse to come here, that means more freight for others while you sit....and there IS freight coming out of New England, your company just doesn't know how to find it or doesn't know how to locate a broker that has freight...

traffic is traffic is traffic.....i relate that to one time when i was crossing the GWB and some cracker was complaining about the traffic going across, "my god i ain't seen so much traffic in all my life"....he said...and i'm thinking where has he been driving all his life..??? to some cracker's, a horse drawn carriage by an Amish man going to the market IS a traffic jam to him.....

the tolls, yeah those are a joke....after all expenses the GWB nets a profit of over $130,000,000 per year....(that's One hundred thirty million dollars).......and yet its still always "under construction"........

NEMF...an LTL company..from Canada down to Florida, and into Puerto Rico.....family owned....in fact, the daughter was (maybe still is) dating Paul Mc Carthy....(former Beatle), and by the way, its very rare they will hire a student.....

yep, lumber, paper, medical supplies, finished cloth, soaps, to name a few things still being produced up here...one needs a good brokerage house or agent to get the loads, for someone to say there ain't nothing coming out of here, either works for a lousy company with deadheads at the desk, or the company is too stupid to locate agents....never was my problem, i had freight all the time......

Thanks a lot for all the replies. They were all helpful. I'll check out the hartt company. I also thought of applying to Budweiser or Coca Cola companies. Don't know if that is a good idea or not but at least they are local. Biggest obstacle so far is not having experience, as Sequoia said, most companies don't hire students. But, I applied to NEMF anyway, one never knows. Again, thanks. LoganD
