The dumbed-down-so-that-Oxbow-can-understand version that I was told was that the pitting was caused at least in part by air bubbles hitting the liner, and good coolant would tend to coat the outside better than poor coolant (green without additives being kept up on). I don't know how true that is, but it made sense to me.....thirty some years ago when I was first aware of the problem.

Your right. Its electeolicyst and cavitation.

Doubt I spelled that one correct.

Seen liners pitted in 12 months. Whole right threw them. Green and dirty, no additives.

It’s amazing how many older engines in older trucks I see that have had the coolant filters removed because “they are just a pita to deal with”. Cummins started using them in early 50’s and they called them “corrosion resistors”. The originals were canistors that had a bag of DCA pellets you changed out as testing dictated. The screw on’s came around with the 855’s.

Got my radiator, surge tank, ac condenser and heater core from American Radiator in Des Moines IA. They have same day shipping and excellent customer service. Ordered and Shipped on Monday and was sitting on the dock at Dayton Freight on Wednesday.

American Radiator: Radiators, Charge Air Coolers, DPF's & more!

Ordered Av-Tekk CAC from the closet distributor which was Cleveland Brothers CAT. Still waiting for that but it’s only been a week.

Note- the surge tank is a Dorman which I wasn’t aware of before ordering. The sticker on the tank says Mayle. It is USA made so I wasn’t too upset.
